元フランス代表MFジネディーヌ・ジダンが、ワールドカップ(W杯)決勝で話題となった場面を振り返った。23日に50歳の誕生日を迎えるジダンは、ワールドカップ(W杯)にもレ・ブルーの一員として1998年フランス大会、2002年日韓大会、2006年ドイツ大会に出場。98年は決勝でブラジル代表から2ゴールを挙げ、母国を初優勝へと導いた。

06年大会でもファイナルのピッチへ立ったキャプテン。フランス『テレフット』にて、当時大きな話題を振り撒いたイタリア代表DFマルコ・マテラッツィへの頭突きに関して「まったく誇ることはできないが、それもまた私自身の過去の一部だ」と、振り返った。
ネガティブな印象を強く植え付けたシーンがある一方、先制点となったPKは大きな称賛を浴びていた。

キャプテンは開始早々の7分に獲得したPKを託された。百戦錬磨のジダンであってもイタリア代表の名GKジャンルイジ・ブッフォンを前に、しばし考える時間を要したという。
「こちらをよく知るGKを前にしているのだから、どうすれば決めることができるか、数秒思考した。その中で(自分が)培ってきた技術力は確かだと思った。狂っていたわけじゃない。PKには失敗も付き物だ。ただ、あの場面は絶対に決めなければならなかった」

そして、ジダンはW杯決勝という大舞台でパネンカを成功させた。

残念ながらその後追い付かれたフランスは、PK戦の末に敗れた。優勝、パネンカ、退場と、ジダンにとってのW杯決勝はあまりにも密度の濃い時間となっている。

「言い訳はしたくない」東京五輪敗退のフランス代表FWジニャックが振り返る「相手が自分たちよりも強かった」

FIFA公式がロシアW杯ベストイレブンを発表! ヤングやパウリーニョら“クセがすごい”選出も…
