「僕自身は最終予選が初めてだったので、どう言うものか全く想像つかなかったけど、どのチームもワールドカップ(W杯)に向けて、すごく熱い気持ちがあるんだなと感じました。どことやっても簡単な試合にならないとなと。僕たちも気持ちや頭の部分でもっと切り替えてやって行く必要があるかなと思いました」 2日の2022年カタールW杯アジア最終予選初戦・オマーン(吹田)。先発トップ下に抜擢されながら思うような仕事ができず、まさかの0-1の敗戦を喫した鎌田大地(フランクフルト)は、未知なるアジアの戦いの怖さを思い知らされた。 2列目で息の合ったコンビネーションを見せてきた南野拓実(リバプール)が負傷離脱したことも困難の要因だったが、対戦相手に大迫勇也(神戸)とのホットラインを寸断されたのは痛かった。 続く7日の中国戦(ドーハ)は同じポジションのライバル・久保建英(マジョルカ)にスタメンを譲る形になった。背番号17をつける20歳の若武者はキレのある動きと強烈なフィニッシュを見せつけ、攻撃を活性化させると同時に白星の立役者となった。その久保の一挙手一投足をベンチから眺めることになった鎌田は、ラスト15分間だけ共演するチャンスを与えられたが、南野と組むような流れるような連動性は残念ながら示せなかった。 2019年3月のコロンビア戦(日産)での初キャップから2年半。日本代表では比較的順調な歩みを見せてきた鎌田にとって、ここまで不完全燃焼感の強いシリーズは初めてだっただろう。 とはいえ、このまま足踏み状態を続けるわけにはいかない。日本は目下、オーストラリア、サウジアラビア、オマーンに続くB組4位に沈んでいるからだ。仮に上位2位以内に入れず、3位に甘んじた場合は、A組3位とのプレーオフに加え、北中米カリブ海か南米、オセアニアのいずれかとの大陸間プレーオフにも勝たなければいけなくなる。そこまで行くことだけは絶対に避けたいところ。10月のサウジアラビア(アウェー)、オーストラリア(ホーム)2連戦で勝ち点6を取れば、一気に形勢逆転できるだけに、次のシリーズが最大の山場。そこまでに彼自身の調子を引き上げることが肝心なのだ。 20-21シーズンの鎌田はフランクフルトでブンデスリーガ1部3位となる15アシストを記録。ゴールも5という数字を残し、評価を一気に上げた。その好調ぶりが今年3月、6月の日本代表シリーズでは如実に出ていて、彼を起点に多彩な攻撃パターンが組み立てられていた。 しかしながら、指揮官がアディ・ヒュッター(現ボルシアMG監督)からオリバー・グラスナーに代わった今季は戦術の落とし込みや連携構築に予想以上に時間がかかり、21-22シーズン公式戦初戦となったDFBポカール1回戦で3部のヴァルドホフ・マインツに0-2の敗戦。鎌田本人も信じがたい現実を目の当たりにさせられた。その翌週末からスタートしたリーグ戦もここまで2分1敗の未勝利。まだ3試合が終わったところだが、14位という不本意な成績に甘んじている。 代表ウイーク明けの9月は、12日のシュツットガルト戦を皮切りに、UEFAヨーロッパリーグ(EL)グループステージも始まる。10月の代表2連戦までに公式戦6試合が組まれ、遠藤航(シュツットガルト)や三好康児(アントワープ)らとの日本人対決もあるため、鎌田としては絶対に負けられない気持ちでいるはず。そこで自身がゴールかアシストという明確な数字を記録し、チームも白星街道を歩むことができれば、代表での序列も変わってくる。久保が新天地・マジョルカで調子を上げている時だけに、彼をしのぐ勢いで活躍することが必要になるのだ。 10月のサウジアラビア戦は伊東純也(ヘンク)が出場停止。代役が誰になるのかというのは極めて重要なテーマと言っていい。森保一監督のここまでの序列では、堂安律(PSV)が第一候補だろうが、その堂安も夏の移籍でドイツのクラブに行くことができず、PSVでコンスタントに出場機会を得るのは難しそうだ。昨季はドイツのビーレフェルトで全試合出場を果たしていただけに、本人としてもコンディション調整に苦しむかもしれない。 1トップと2列目という前線の複数ポジションをこなせる古橋亨梧(セルティック)も中国戦の右ヒザの負傷で1カ月程度の離脱を強いられることが判明。チームにとってはショッキングなニュースに他ならない。2018年ロシアW杯で右サイドを担った原口元気(ウニオン・ベルリン)も近年は中央を主戦場としていて、以前にようなウインガー的な活躍を求めるのは難しいかもしれない。 となれば、中国戦のラスト15分間のように、鎌田がトップ下、久保が右サイドという選択肢も大いにあり得る。南野のケガの状況がどうなるか未知数ではあるが、背番号10が戻ってくれば3人が流動的に動いて敵をかく乱する攻撃も大いに期待できる。ただ、そこまでに3人がそれぞれ所属クラブでパフォーマンスを上げ、豊富な運動量で敵を凌駕できる状態になっていることがポイントだ。鎌田は試合に出続ければそのレベルには到達できるはず。この1か月間が代表キャリアを賭けた勝負になると言っても過言ではないのだ。 「正直、僕自身は誰とやっても共存できる。自分がトップ下じゃなくて、他のポジションだってできると思うし、それは監督が決めること。僕自身は誰とやってもうまくできるようにしたいし、どこのポジションで使われても、ある程度いいパフォーマンスをできる選手にならないとダメかなと思います」 本人も柔軟性や適応力を高め、つねに高いレベルをキープできるようにしたいと静かな闘志を燃やしている。幼少期からの夢であるW杯の大舞台に立とうと思うなら、この9月に全身全霊を注ぐこと。今こそ鎌田大地の底力を見せてほしい。 2021.09.12 15:00 Sun

フランクフルト、メインスポンサーのIndeedと2026年まで契約延長

長谷部誠がブンデスのアジア人最多出場記録更新! 来季には外国人出場記録でトップ10入りの可能性も
