かつてNBAのスター選手として活躍したバスケ界のレジェンドの娘が、アメリカ女子代表として初ゴールを記録した。

12日、アメリカ女子代表はウズベキスタン女子代表とのフレンドリーマッチを行った。

オハイオ州のコロンバスで行われた一戦。実力で勝るアメリカが圧倒的な強さを見せるかる。

開始1分でオウンゴールが決まり先制すると、その後も得点を重ね、終わってみれば9-0という大差でアメリカが勝利した。

その中で、アメリカ女子代表として初ゴールを決めたのがトリニティ・ロッドマン。その名前からもわかるとおり、シカゴ・ブルズなどで活躍し、奇抜なヘアスタイルと圧倒的なリバンド力で一世を風靡したデニス・ロッドマン氏を父に持つ。

トリニティ・ロッドマンは6-0で迎えた71分にゴール。味方からの縦パスがカットされるも、こぼれ球を拾うと、ボックス内に侵入。ゴール左へとしっかりと蹴り込み、初ゴールを記録した。

簡単そうにも見えるシュートだが、しっかりとしたシュート技術がなければ決められない難しいもの。代表3試合目での初ゴールとなった。

アメリカ女子サッカーのドラフト1巡目で指名されるなど高く評価されていたトリニティ・ロッドマンは、ワシントン・スピリットに所属。昨シーズンは横山久美や宝田沙織とともにプレーしリーグ制覇に貢献。NWSL(アメリカ女子プロサッカーリーグ)のルーキーオブザイヤーとベストイレブンにも選出。さらに、アメリカサッカー連盟の女性のプレーヤー・オブ・ザ・イヤーも受賞するなど、飛躍のルーキーイヤーとなった。

さらにこの活躍を受けてワシントン・スピリットは契約を延長。NWSLで最高給の選手に1年でなってしまった逸材。アメリカ女子代表の未来のエースとして大きな期待が寄せられている。
