カタールW杯欧州予選のグループBを2位でプレーオフに回ったスウェーデン。チェコ代表との準決勝を延長戦にもつれ込む激闘の末に制して、ポーランドとの決勝に勝ち上がった。
ポーランド戦勝利に向けては相手のエースであるFWロベルト・レヴァンドフスキの封じ込みも鍵に。リンデロフは「何て言ったら良いかな。彼は素晴らしい選手だよ」と称賛を続けた。

「今までで最も酷い」「複雑な気持ち」太陽をイメージしたスウェーデン代表の新ユニフォームが大不評「一体どうすればこんなにも間違うのか」
