時が経っても師弟関係は変わらないようだ。およそ19シーズンにわたってチェルシーで活躍をしてきた元イングランド代表DFジョン・テリー氏(40)は15日、自身のインスタグラムに次のようなキャプションを添えて一枚の写真を投稿した。
「5km走った。読書と1組のビスケット。犬を散歩に連れて、パブで家族と一緒に日曜のランチだ。良い日曜日を」
これに反応したのがトッテナムのアントニオ・コンテ監督(52)だ。2016年4月からからチェルシーで指揮を執り、当時師弟関係であった2人は2016-17シーズンにプレミアリーグを制覇。当時の教え子が投稿した写真にコンテ監督は「ジョン、ビスケットは1枚だけだよ」と、冗談交じりに指摘した。
コンテ監督はチェルシー就任時、厳格な脂質制限を設け、クラブの食堂からケチャップやマヨネーズを撤廃。サンドイッチを推奨し、シェフには油やバターでの調理をしないよう指示を出したと言われている。先日就任したトッテナムにおいても、一部の選手はフィットネスに難があると考えているようで、もっと果物を食べるよう推奨していると、イギリス『サン』が伝えている。

「緊張した」ベイルがゴルフ世界ランク2位の名手とラウンド!友人とのサッカーで靭帯断裂したこともあるトッププロからもお墨付き「いいショットだ」

昨シーズン限りで現役を引退した元ベルギー代表FWエデン・アザールが、11年ぶりにあの“ボールボーイ”と再会した。 リール、チェルシー、ベルギー代表で輝かしいキャリアを築いたアザール。2019年に加入したレアル・マドリーでは自身のコンディション管理の問題などもあり長らく負傷に悩まされた結果、最後まで全盛期の輝きを放てぬまま、昨シーズン限りで退団。その後、新天地でのキャリア続行の選択肢もあったが、昨年10月10日に32歳という若さで現役引退を決断した。 以降はフットボール界とやや距離を置き、新たな挑戦に向けて充電中の元ベルギー代表FWは、約10年前に大きな話題を集めた因縁のボールボーイとの再会を果たすことになった。 当時、チェルシーでプレーしていたアザールは、2013年1月24日に行われたキャピタル・ワン・カップ(現カラバオカップ)準決勝2ndレグのスウォンジー・シティ戦に先発出場。 ホームでの1stレグを0-2で落とし、2ndレグも0-0のまま試合終盤を迎えていたなか、スウォンジーのゴールキックとなった際に事件が発生した。 当時17歳だったボールボーイのチャーリー・モーガンはボールを拾いに行ったものの、時間稼ぎを目的にボールを戻さずにいると、アザールがボールを貰おうと駆け寄る。それでもモーガンがボールを離さずに覆い被さる形になり、これに激高したアザールがボールごとモーガンを蹴った結果、主審は同選手にレッドカードを掲示。結局、3試合の出場停止処分を科された。 それでも、当時アザールは「ボールボーイがドレッシングルームに来て、ちょっと話をした。僕も彼も互いに謝って、それで終わりになった」と、両者の関係が問題ないと説明していた。 そして、その言葉通りに事件から11年の時を経て両者は再会することになった。 アザールは24日、自身の公式X(旧ツイッター)に「引退後の嬉しいことは、昔の友人たちと再会できることだ。この11年間で長い道のりを歩んできた、友よ」というコメントと共に、モーガンとのツーショット写真を投稿した。 なお、アザールの行為が大人げないものだったとはいえ、事件当時は問題児とも指摘されたモーガンだが、現在はウォッカブランド『Au Vodka』を経営するやり手の実業家として知られている。 ホテル経営者で当時スウォンジーの幹部でもあった父親からの資金援助を受け、2016年に友人と立ち上げた事業が大成功し、2023年のイギリス『タイムズ』の報道では5500万ポンド(約103億円)の資産を持つ大富豪と紹介されていた。 <span class="paragraph-title">【写真】11年ぶりにアザールとモーガンが再会</span> <span data-other-div="movie"></span> <div id="cws_ad"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">A nice thing about retirement is catching up with old friends. 今夏チェルシー正式加入の逸材パエスは系列ストラスブール行きか…レンタルに向けた障害は両クラブの今季成績?
