スターリング、コロナ合併症で急逝の友人にハンガリー戦のゴール捧ぐ「永遠にあなたを愛してる」

マンチェスター・シティに所属するイングランド代表FWラヒーム・スターリングが、ハンガリー代表戦で決めたゴールを先日逝去した友人に捧げた。イギリス『デイリー・メール』が伝えている。

イングランドは2日、敵地で行われたカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)欧州予選のグループI第4節、ハンガリー戦を4-0で勝利した。

同試合に先発フル出場したスターリングは後半序盤の55分にMFメイソン・マウントからの折り返しを冷静に流し込み、貴重な先制ゴールを挙げていた。

その際、スターリングはゴールセレブレーションの場面で、自身のユニフォームを捲り、事前に用意していたTシャツをアピール。そこには「永遠にあなたを愛してるステフィー・グレッグ」とのメッセージがプリントされていた。

そして、今回のスターリングのジェスチャーは、先日に新型コロナウイルスの合併症により、26歳で急逝した友人を追悼する意味合いがあったことが判明した。

『デイリー・メール』によると、ステフィー・グレッグさんはジャマイカのダンスホール・プロデューサーであるルヴシアン氏の姪で、父親と兄弟もレーシングドライバーという、ジャマイカでは有名なファミリーの一員だという。また、個人としては『Twitch』の有名ストリーマー、『Instagram』のインフルエンサーとしても知られていたようだ。

しかし、以前から自己免疫疾患を患っていたステフィーさんは、8月31日にアメリカのマイアミで新型コロナウイルスの合併症により、急逝していた。

その訃報を受け、ジャマイカに住んでいた頃からの友人だったスターリングは、ハンガリー戦でのゴールを愛する友人に捧げた。

なお、スターリングは同試合後、自身の公式『Instagram』に「これをあなたのために捧げます。SVG(ステフィー・グレッグ)」とのキャプションと共に、ゴールセレブレーションを写した自身の画像を投稿していた。

元ユナイテッドSDがFAに復帰…新設のチーフ・フットボール・オフィサーに就任

フランスW杯の戦犯が…ベッカム史上最高のFKから20年「特別な瞬間だった」

イングランド代表のユニフォームが変? ファンが気づいた異変はベテランキットマンのまさかのミス…「間違ってしまった」
