3日、東京オリンピックの男子サッカー準決勝が行われ、スペインは日本と対戦。互いに決勝進出を目指して激闘が繰り広げられた。

試合はスペインがボールを終始握り、主導権を握る中、日本の守備陣が粘りを見せ続け、得点を許さない。

DF吉田麻也、GK谷晃生を中心とした堅い守り、集中した守備でスペインの攻撃をしのいだ日本だが、スペインもしっかりと守り得点を許さずに90分が終了する。

互いに2試合連続で延長戦に突入。スペインが押し込む展開は変わらないものの、日本の守備も安定感を持ったまま、120分が終了すると思われた。

しかし迎えた115分、右サイドをミケル・オヤルサバルが突破しチャンスを作ると、直後にはそのオヤルサバルが狭いコースを通しボックス右のアセンシオへ。得意な位置でパスを受けたアセンシオはそのまま左足を振り抜き待望のゴール。そのまま1-0でスペインが勝利した。

チームを決勝へと導く値千金のゴールを決めたアセンシオが試合後にコメント。難しい試合だったとしながらも勝利を喜び、金メダルを目指すと意気込んだ。

「長い時間苦しんでいた試合だった。その努力は途方も無いものだった」

21世紀の出場試合数ランキング発表! 首位は1145試合のC・ロナウド、トップ10に日本人選手がランクイン

「マジで来てるのか!」「一目でもいいから会いたい」ダビド・シルバが来日しファン騒然、東京と大阪を楽しむ姿に久保建英も反応「気に入ってもらえるといいな」
