世界最高の選手とは…DFでただ1人バロンドールを2度受賞した“皇帝”フランツ・ベッケンバウアー

2011～2020年の世界ベストイレブンが発表!イニエスタとともに中盤に入ったのは相棒チャビではなく…

揃ってユベントス移籍のカップルが破局? ドウグラス・ルイスは信頼得られず1年で退団へ…“世界一美しい”とされる彼女は1年目でリーグ優勝の格差

1チームに1人欲しかった“万能型サイドバック”、ジャンルカ・ザンブロッタ

元デンマーク代表FWニクラス・ベントナー氏(36)が本意ではない現役引退を振り返り、後悔と心の闇を打ち明けた。イギリス『サン』が伝えている。 良くも悪くも北欧デンマークを代表するフットボーラーとして名を馳せたベントナー氏。アーセナルやユベントスといった経歴以上に、飲酒運転・無免許運転・器物損壊・暴行といった数々の犯罪歴がクローズアップされる。 それでも、珍発言の数々や屈託のない笑顔で愛されキャラとして認知され、現在は母国で「ニクラスのイタズラ」という自身の名を冠したバラエティ番組の司会者として活躍中。一方ではデンマークのサッカーを議論するラジオ・ポッドキャスト番組にもレギュラー出演する。 そんななか、かつて自伝を共同制作したライターと再会し、自身の心の闇を打ち明けるドキュメンタリー番組への出演を了承。2021年6月の現役引退発表に至るまでの1年半を回想し、普段は明るく陽気な“ベントナー男爵”も、今回ばかりは神妙に「後悔」を打ち明けた。 「2019年限りでローゼンボリを退団したあと、いくつかのクラブから話があり、行きたいクラブもあったが、中国で始まったことにより、その選択肢はなくなった」 “中国で始まったこと”が指すのは、新型コロナウイルスの世界的蔓延。ローゼンボリ退団後に新天地を探したベントナー氏だが、結局どのクラブも自身の獲得にゴーサインを出さず。コロナによるクラブ財政逼迫の懸念と同時に、自らのパーソナリティが嫌われたと感じたようだ。 「(私の)評判は決して良くなかっただろうからね。いくつかのクラブのコーチから『私としてはキミを獲得したいが、上層部は動かない』と言われたよ。獲るか獲らないか…クラブが難しい決断を迫られたとき、私のような人間は有利にならないのだろう。キャリアを終えることにした」 結局、無所属が1年半続いた末、やるせなさを抱えたまま引退発表。今なお現役復帰を夢に見ると明かしつつ、それは叶わないとも語る。 「引退発表が正しい選択だったかどうかわからない。いや、じっくり考えての行動ではなかったんだ。そのせいだろうか。ここ2〜3年、復帰を考えなかった日なんかない。今日もそうだ。だが、はっきり言ってそれは妄想だ。もうフットボーラーのカラダには戻れない」 「私にとってフットボールは“愛”。心の底から愛してきた唯一のものであり、少年時代から私に自由な空間を与えてくれた唯一の場所だ。どんな闇を抱えていても、ピッチに入れば全てが吹き飛んだ。他に同じ“愛”を見つけるのは難しい」 「故意に誰かを傷つけたり、失望させようとしたことなんか一度もない。だが、自分の中に平穏を見つけるのに、私はあまりに長い時間を要してしまった…この少々難しい性格を今さら隠すつもりはない。年齢を重ねてここに座っている今、ようやく過去を冷静に振り返ることができる。そして、振り返れば振り返るほどに『後悔』が押し寄せてくる」 2024.02.09 18:25 Fri

「ゾーン」に名を残すカルチョの“ファンタジスタ”、デル・ピエロ
