フランス代表を率いるディディエ・デシャン監督が、2年ぶりに招集したユベントスMFアドリアン・ラビオに関して言及した。『フランス・フットボール』が伝えている。

パリ・サンジェルマン(PSG)時代の2016年に代表デビューを飾ったラビオは、ここまで通算6試合に出場。だが、2018年のロシア・ワールドカップ(W杯)の際に23名の登録メンバーから漏れたことを不服とし、選出されていた予備登録メンバー入りを拒否。これにより、以降は2年間に渡ってレ・ブルーから遠ざかっていた。それでも、UEFAネーションズリーグ2020-21に向けた最新の招集メンバーに選出され、約2年ぶりの代表復帰となった。
前述の一件の際にはラビオに対して辛辣なコメントを残していたデシャン監督は、今回の招集の意図を以下のように説明している。

「私は自分自身に幾つかの問いかけを行った。何がこのチームのために最善なのか、目標は何なのか、次の試合に勝つために何が必要なのか、とね」
「その中でアドリアン(・ラビオ)はユーベで非常に良いレベルに戻ってきている。さらに、多くの人が考えていることとは異なり、私は彼を除外していなかった」

その一方で、3センターのインサイドハーフをベストポジションとするラビオに対しては、メインシステムとして採用する[4-4-1-1]の2センターハーフの一角でのプレーに順応するように要求している。

「彼は3人の中盤において左か右のどちらかでプレーするのがベストだと思うが、それは我々のベースではない。そのことは別としても、これはポール(・ポグバ)にも共通する点だが、彼がディフェンスの前に2人(2センター)でプレーするならば、適応が必要だ」

「彼はポールに比べてゴール数、決定力という部分で劣っている。だが、前への推進力は同程度だと思うし、必要な技術面のクオリティを持っている」

偉大なるジルー、その分岐点は若き日のフランス代表デビュー戦…惚れ込んだヴェンゲル氏「夢中になってしまった」

「鶏デカすぎ」「ケンタッキーとのコラボか?」フランス代表の新ユニフォームにはビッグサイズのロゴが採用「巨大すぎない?」
