3月に行われたオランダ代表戦を勝利し白星発進となったドイツ代表が、未勝利でグループ最下位のベラルーシのホームに乗り込んだ一戦。レーブ監督の緊急入院に伴い代理監督を務めるゾルク氏は、ロイスや、ニャブリ、ザネ、キミッヒ、GKノイアーらを先発で起用した。
地力で勝るドイツが立ち上がりから攻勢に出ると9分、左サイドから仕掛けたニャブリがボックス手前からシュート。さらに相手GKの弾いたボールをつなぎ、最後はロイスの落としからボックス右のクロステルマンがシュートを放ったが、これも相手GKの好セーブに防がれた。
攻勢を続けるドイツは13分、キミッヒのスルーパスからボックス右に侵入したザネが巧みな切り返しで相手マークを外すと、左足のシュートをゴール右に突き刺した。
先制したドイツだが、32分にセットプレーからピンチを迎える。グロムイコの右CKをゴール前のナウモフがフリーでヘディングシュートを放ったが、これは守護神ノイアーが右手一本で弾き出した。

沈黙を破ったエジルがDFB会長を痛烈批判! ドイツ代表からの引退も発表
