▽ミランのクロアチア代表FWニコラ・カリニッチが、準優勝メダルの受け取りを辞退している。スペイン『マルカ』が報じた。

▽ロシア・ワールドカップ(W杯)にクロアチア代表として臨み、グループD初戦のナイジェリア代表戦でベンチからスタートしたカリニッチ。後半40分にズラトコ・ダリッチ監督から途中出場を命じられると、これを拒否し、試合後にメンバーから外され帰宅させられていた。

▽それでも、カリニッチを追放し22人となったクロアチアは、MFルカ・モドリッチらを中心に人数の不足を感じさせない快進撃を続け、見事に同国史上初の準優勝に到達。記念品としてメダルを受け取っていた。
▽そして、クロアチアサッカー協会の技術委員やチームメイトは、オリジナルメンバーに含まれていたカリニッチもメダルを受け取る権利があるとして、授与を決断。しかし、当の本人がそれを辞退した。

▽拒否の理由について、カリニッチは「メダルはありがたいよ。でも、僕はロシアでプレーしていない」とコメント。大会中は褒められない言動を取ってしまったベテランFWが、誠実な態度を示している。

「ショック」「史上最悪」クロアチア代表のW杯ユニ、伝統の市松模様が不均衡なホームは酷評の嵐…アウェイには好意的意見
