チャンピオンズリーグ(CL)優勝5回などレアル・マドリーで数多のタイトルを獲得し、在籍最終年には主将も務めたマルセロ。昨夏加入したオリンピアコスとは2月に契約を解除したが、その直後、古巣フルミネンセへの16年ぶり復帰が発表された。

10日にフルミネンセの本拠地マラカナン・スタジアムで加入セレモニーが催され、スペイン『Relevo』によると、集まったサポーターはおよそ35000人。マルセロの登場に先立って友人であるブラジルの人気ラッパー、フィリペ・レットさんがライブを行うなど、ド派手にレジェンドの帰還を祝ったという。

マルセロは妻と2人の愛息とともにピッチに登場。登場から数分間拍手が止まず、マルセロがマイクを手に言葉を発そうとしても、サポーターの声援が大きすぎてなかなか話し出せないほどの熱狂ぶりだったようだ。

その後、マルセロは「家に帰ってきた。人生で最高の瞬間だ」と挨拶。マドリー時代と同じく慣れ親しんだ背番号12番のユニフォームをクラブ幹部から受け取ると、「喜びと情熱を与えるため、献身的に戦う」と誓った。
