モナコ時代の2017年にはディディエ・デシャン監督率いるA代表でも1試合に出場しているが、このほどフランス『レキップ』のインタビューで、自身のような二重国籍者(フランスとコートジボワール)が直面する難題について語った。
「二重国籍を持っていると、A代表の選択がどれほど難しいものになるか。デシャンから最初の電話がかかってきたときのことをよく覚えているよ。『イエス』と返答するまで丸2日間、ずっとお腹が痛く、何も喉を通らなかった」
考え抜いた末にレ・ブルー入りを決めたバカヨコ。初キャップを最後に招集されていないことで心残りがあるようだが、コートジボワールの選択肢を切り捨てたこともずっと引っかかっているようだ。
「しかし、完全なるインターナショナルな存在にはどうしたってなれないね。基本的に選択肢は1つしかない。例えばもし『今からコートジボワール代表になれ』と言われたら…ノーともイエスとも返せない。イエスなら自分を否定しているような気分になるはずだ」

最悪“8カ月”の出場停止…味方の退場に激昂し主審を突き飛ばす

「鶏デカすぎ」「ケンタッキーとのコラボか?」フランス代表の新ユニフォームにはビッグサイズのロゴが採用「巨大すぎない?」

マテラッツィ、ジダンとの“頭突き事件”を引き起こした侮辱発言の真相を明かす
