C・ロナウドは破局したら毎月1600万円を支払い? 「妻」と呼んで話題のジョルジーナさんとの間に契約が発覚

威信をかけてイングランド撃破へ…ホームでは60年間無敗、元自国代表戦士の敵将就任もあって機運高まるアイルランド

アイルランド代表への期待が自国民の間で高まっている模様だ。 9月上旬の代表ウィーク、欧州ではUEFAネーションズリーグ(UNL)2024-25が始まり、グループB2のアイルランド代表は、7日の第1節でイングランド代表とのホームゲームに臨む。アイルランドとイギリス…緊張が消え去ったわけではない両国関係は言わずもがな、今回はイギリスからの独立100年(2022年)を迎えて以降で初となるサッカーでの激突に。「イングランド代表相手には必ず一矢報いる」という意識が強いのか、実力差あれど、1922年の独立後は通算対戦成績3勝8分け6敗。おいそれとはイングランド代表に勝利を与えず、公式戦で最後に敗れたのは1980年、ホームで最後に敗れたのは1964年だ。最後に公式戦で対戦したのは、ユーロ1992予選の1990年と1991年。ホーム&アウェイとも1-1のドロー決着に持ち込んだが、悔しいのは、アイルランドはイングランドと勝ち点1差の2位で本大会行きを逃した点だ。時は流れて2024年、近年アイルランドはA代表デビューを飾ったばかりのデクラン・ライスがイングランドへの“鞍替え”を選び、稀代の才能が流出。また、ここにきてイングランドの暫定監督にリー・カーズリー氏が就任した。カーズリー氏はイングランド出身ながらもアイルランド系であり、現役時代はアイルランド代表通算39キャップ。長くプレミアリーグで活躍した傍ら、2002年日韓W杯でプレーした。 2019年から世代別イングランド代表を率いており、A代表への昇格もアイルランド・イギリス両国である程度予想されたことだが、やはりアイルランド国民としては意識せざるを得ない模様。何せ強烈なナショナリストが多い。首都ダブリンでイングランドを迎え撃つ決戦が刻一刻と近づくなか、対戦相手はジュード・ベリンガムが負傷で招集不可に。リベラル紙に分類される『アイリッシュ・タイムズ』でさえ「勝つチャンスだ!」と息巻く熱量だ。アイルランドは今回のイングランド戦が、ヘイミル・ハルグリムソン新監督の初陣に。同監督は元アイスランド代表指揮官(※)にして、ユーロ2016でイングランドを撃破した、世紀の大勝利を国民にもたらした指揮官だ。 (※)ユーロ2016ではラーシュ・ラーゲルベック氏との共同指揮アイルランド代表は、1995年2月15日以来29年ぶりとなるイングランド代表撃破を目指す。 2024.08.25 16:30 Sun
