イングランド代表MFジャック・グリーリッシュが代表復帰を喜んだ。イングランドは7日のUEFAネーションズリーグ(UNL)・リーグB・グループ2第1節でアイルランド代表とのアウェイ戦に臨み、2-0で勝利。デクラン・ライスとともにグリーリッシュもネットを揺らし、リー・カーズリー暫定体制の初陣でもある一戦を白星で飾った。

ライスと同じくアイルランドにルーツを持ち、年代別代表でアイルランド代表経験ありとあって、ブーイングも飛んだグリーリッシュだが、試合後の『ITV』で「僕とデクが予想したとおりだ。試合前にも言ったけど、悪くは言わないよ」と振り返る。
「僕らはここでプレーするのを楽しんだし、僕の家族にアイルランド人も多くいる。僕には何の恨みもない。僕のことに話を戻すと、レギュラーとしてプレーし、ゴールを決めないといけない。今日はそれができた。100%のフィット感はなかったけど、満足だよ」

そんなマンチェスター・シティ所属の28歳は先のユーロ2024で落選を経験し、今活動でカムバック。「今日はすべての意味があった」とし、イングランド代表でプレーする喜びを噛み締めた。
「最後にファンのところに行ったら、僕の名前を歌ってくれているのを聞いた。イングランド代表でプレーすることほど素晴らしい気分はない。全国民が自分を見るこういう試合となればなおさらね」

「(ユーロ2024での落選は)人生でも最悪の夏の1つだったよ。目の前で起こるすべてを見ないわけにも行かないしね。辛かったけど、バウンスバックに向けたモチベーションがさらに高まった」

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】

ブリッジは“不倫男”テリーを未だに許さず? 自身の近くに引っ越し発覚後、自宅を売却に出す

イングランド代表が新ユニフォームを発表、赤ではなくなったアウェイは賛否分かれる「初めてじゃないか?」「そのチョイスはなしだ」

イングランド代表のユニフォームが変? ファンが気づいた異変はベテランキットマンのまさかのミス…「間違ってしまった」
