人種差別的な侮辱を受けていたイングランド代表の選手たち。しかし、強いハートを持ってそれに対抗していた。イングランドは、2日に行われたカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)欧州予選でハンガリー代表と対戦。試合は0-4で快勝を収めていた。

ユーロ準優勝国として欧州予選に臨んだが、アウェイではハンガリーのファンの攻撃に遭うことになる。
キックオフ前には、ヒザをついて人種差別への抗議の姿勢を示したが、これにはブーイングが浴びせられた。

さらに、ラヒーム・スターリングが先制ゴールを決めると、スタンドからは紙コップやボトルが投げ込まれる時代に。その後も、発煙筒が投げ込まれるなど、スタジアムは混乱に満ちていた。
しかし、これに対して怒りを露わにするでもなく、余裕の対応を見せたのはイングランド代表の選手たちだ。

デクラン・ライスは投げ込まれたビールのプラスチックカップを拾うと、そのビールを飲むふりを観客に見せつけた。

さらには、今夏マンチェスター・シティに加入したジャック・グリーリッシュも続き、投げ込まれたカップを拾ってスタンドに向かって飲む真似をして見せたのだ。

ユーロを制することは惜しくもできなかったが、サッカーだけでなくメンタル面の強さも手にしたイングランド代表の面々。心は熱く、頭は冷静にを表現できている今は、本来の強さを手にしているのかもしれない。

ライスがチェルシーアカデミーからの放出を回想…「大きな失望」

ウェストハムのイングランド代表MFデクラン・ライス(21)がチェルシーアカデミーから放出された際の心境を明かした。イギリス『スカイ・スポーツ』が伝えている。 ロンドン生まれのライスは、同い年のイングランド代表MFメイソン・マウントらと共に7歳から2014年までチェルシーのアカデミーに在籍していた。 だが、イングランド屈指のタレントが揃う同アカデミーで思うようにプレーできず、10代半ばで放出の憂き目に。そして、同じロンドンにあるウェストハムのユースへの移籍を強いられた。 それでも、2017年にトップチームデビューを果たすと、安定したボール捌きと守備力を生かしてアンカーの主力に定着。今夏の移籍市場では古巣チェルシーが呼び戻しに動く可能性も盛んに報じられている。 そういった状況の中でライスは、14歳のときに味わった「大きな失望」と表現するチェルシーアカデミー退団を振り返っている。 「14歳のときにチェルシーから放出されるという、大きな失望から立ち直る必要があったんだ」 「当時の僕は放出という事実が大きな失望でしかなかったよ。平日はいつもコブハムでトレーニングをしていたし、休日には多くの試合にも出ていた」 「それなのに、自分がもうチェルシーの一員ではないと告げられたときは大きなショックを受けたよ。自分の身にまさかそんなことが起こるとは思っていなかったけど、実際に起こってしまったんだ」 14歳の少年にとってチェルシーというエリートコースからの脱落の衝撃は非常に大きかったと思われる。だが、ライスは以降もプロフットボーラーになるという自身の夢に向けて、懸命に努力を重ねていたという。 「チェルシーから放出された後はフルアムとウェストハムのどちらかと契約できるという幸運な機会が訪れた。そして、僕はウェストハムを選び、自分のキャリアにおける新たな章をスタートしたよ」 「プロになるためにより厳しい状況になることはわかっていたけど、プロフットボーラーは子供の頃からずっと夢に描いてきたものだった。だから、その夢を実現するために一生懸命努力を続けたし、チェルシーでの挫折がマイナスな影響を及ぼすようなことはなかったよ」 「僕は元々、一途な性格だし、常に自分のベストを尽くしたいと考えているんだ。幾つかの犠牲を払い、自宅を離れて新しい挑戦の場に向かう必要があった。だけど、これまで自分が下したすべての決断が本当にうまくいったと感じているよ」 チェルシーアカデミーからの放出という挫折が現在のライスを形成していることは間違いないが、今夏あるいは将来的に古巣に帰還を果たすことになるのか…。 2020.04.26 14:25 Sun

ウェストハムMFデクラン・ライスとチェルシーMFメイソン・マウントの親友コンビが憧れのスリーライオンズで夢のようなゴール共演を果たした。 イングランド代表は18日、UEFAネーションズリーグ2020-21リーグA・グループ2最終節でアイスランド代表と対戦し、4-0で快勝した。 そして、同試合では前半の20分にMFフィル・フォーデンのFKに頭で合わせたライスが待望の代表初ゴールを挙げると、その4分後にはセットプレーの二次攻撃からマウントが代表通算3ゴール目を奪取。主役の座は2ゴール1アシストのフォーデンに譲ることになったが、ライスとマウントの2人にとっては子供の頃の夢を叶えた最高の試合となった。 共にロンドン生まれ、チェルシーのアカデミー育ちの両選手は8歳の頃からの親友で、14歳の時にライスが放出の憂き目に遭った際にはマウントの母親が涙を流すなど、家族ぐるみの付き合いをしてきた。 その後、マウントが順調にチェルシーで活躍を続ける一方、ライスは新天地ウェストハムでブレイクを果たし、両者はプレミアリーグでは良きライバル、イングランド代表では中盤の相棒として切磋琢磨を続けている。 そして、このアイスランド戦ではついに同じ試合でゴールを挙げるという、まるで夢のような瞬間を共有することになった。 同試合後、殊勲のライスとマウントはイギリス『スカイ・スポーツ』のポストマッチインタビューで、ゴール共演を振り返っている。 まずはライスが、「中盤で一緒にプレーできることを知った時、それ自体が特別な瞬間だったよ。さらに、同じ試合でゴールを決められるなんて信じられないことだよ」と、素直な感動を伝えた。 一方、マウントは親友とのゴール共演を喜びながらも、新型コロナウィルスの影響により、無観客開催が続く中、相棒と自身を支えてきた互いの家族がスタジアムで同じ喜びを共有できなかったことを残念に感じている。 「もしもファンの入場が許可されていれば、彼ら(両家族)は一緒に見守ってくれていたはずさ。彼らは僕がデビューした時も一緒にいたし、デク(ライス)と初めて一緒にプレーした時もね。僕らは彼らと共に特別な思い出を共有してきたからね」 「僕らは小さい頃から親友だし、これからもより多くの素晴らしい思い出を作っていけたら最高だね」 なお、ハマーズで守備的MFとセンターバックで印象的な活躍を続けるライスにはフランク・ランパード監督が以前から熱視線を注いでおり、今冬、あるいは来夏にはチェルシーでの親友コンビの共演も期待されている。 2020.11.19 18:05 Thu

アーセナル、今季3rdユニフォームは緑!80年代意識のレトロスタイル

頭部同士が激しく激突、動けず12分間も治療…担架で運ばれたイングランド女子代表DFにはスタンドから拍手

元ユナイテッドSDがFAに復帰…新設のチーフ・フットボール・オフィサーに就任

元マンチェスター・ユナイテッドのスポーツディレクター(SD)、ダン・アシュワース氏が、イングランドサッカー協会(FA)に復帰することになった。 FAは14日、アシュワース氏が新設のチーフ・フットボール・オフィサーに就任すると発表。同職ではイングランド代表の男女チームと緊密に連携していくことになるという。 昨年12月にユナイテッドのSDをわずか5カ月で退任したアシュワース氏。それ以前にはブライトン&ホーヴ・アルビオン、ニューカッスルで手腕を発揮しており、国内外のクラブからのオファーも想定されていたが、2018年まで6年間に渡って勤務していたFAに復帰することになった。 アシュワース氏は、セント・ジョージズ・パークの再開発を監督し、2028年に開催されるユーロ2028の共催に向け、競技施設とピッチの改善を目指す。 さらに、この新役職は、男子フットボールのテクニカルディレクターであるジョン・マクダーモット氏と緊密に連携するとともに、FAの最高経営責任者(CEO)であるマーク・ブリンガム氏とも連携する。 また、イングランド国内の地元出身のコーチの育成にも携わる予定だという。 2025.05.15 16:30 Thu

フランスW杯の戦犯が…ベッカム史上最高のFKから20年「特別な瞬間だった」

イングランド代表のユニフォームが変? ファンが気づいた異変はベテランキットマンのまさかのミス…「間違ってしまった」
