トッテナムのイングランド代表MFジェームズ・マディソンは、イングランド代表復帰を希望していると明かした。
一方で、イングランド代表は今年からトーマス・トゥヘル監督が新たに就任。これにより、序列がリセットされる可能性もあり、3月のインターナショナルマッチウィークに向けた代表発表が注目されている。
イギリス『イブニング・スタンダード』によると、マディソンはすでにトゥヘル監督と話し合いの場を設けたとのこと。その上で、現在の成績を考えれば代表へ行く資格はあると自信を示している。
「僕も代表の一部になりたいと切望しているよ。調子は良いと思うし、残している数字もかなり良い。僕より得点やアシストで上回る中盤はそう多くないだろう。特に今は調子も良くて感覚も鋭く、ほとんどの試合に影響を与えることができるとわかっている」

今シーズン、公式戦33試合10ゴール7アシストの成績を残すマディソン。残念ながらトッテナムはプレミアリーグで12位と不振に陥っている最中ではあるが、マディソン自身はリーグ戦でも24試合9ゴール5アシストと上々の数字だ。そんなマディソンが熱望しているのは、イングランド代表への復帰。昨年開催されたユーロ2024ではメンバーから落選となっており、以降は代表戦での出場がない。イギリス『イブニング・スタンダード』によると、マディソンはすでにトゥヘル監督と話し合いの場を設けたとのこと。その上で、現在の成績を考えれば代表へ行く資格はあると自信を示している。
