母国帰還を希望するウィル・スティル監督

サンダーランド行きが再燃するスタッド・ランスのウィル・スティル監督が、改めて母国への帰還希望を明言した。

今シーズンに入ってトニー・モウブレイ氏、マイケル・ビール氏と2人の指揮官を解任したチャンピオンシップ(イングランド2部)のサンダーランド。

現在、新指揮官を探すクラブはビール氏の招へい前にコンタクトを取っていたスティル監督の招へいを検討しているようだ。

現状ではランスがシーズン途中の指揮官引き抜きに難色を示しており、決して安くない違約金の支払いを含め実現の可能性は低いものの、スティル監督自身は依然として生まれ故郷であるイングランド帰還を希望している。

最近のイギリス『The Athletic』のインタビューでは、今冬のサンダーランドとの接触を認めると共に将来的なイングランド帰還希望を明言している。

「実際には起こらなかったことが起きて、大騒ぎになった。興味はあった。それについて嘘をつくつもりはない」

「私はずっと海外にいて、異なる環境でずっと働いてきた。そして私はただ家に帰りたいんだ」

「野心的で、正しい方法で取り組み、物事に対してオープンで正直であり、どこかに到達するために真剣に努力することを望んでいるチャンピオンシップクラブがあるなら、私はそれをしたいと思っている」

「それにプレミアリーグは世界中の監督にとって究極の夢であることは明らかだ」

さらに、スティル監督はシーズン前半戦の戦績を考慮すれば、十分にヨーロッパの出場権獲得も可能と思われたなか、今冬の移籍市場での消極的な振る舞いに加え、主力MFアゾル・マツシワをスタッド・レンヌに売却したクラブへの不満を隠さない。

「それ(主力売却)はランスの経営の一面であり、今でも理解はしているが限界を感じている。もちろん、リスペクトは持っているが、私は野心的で、自分自身とチームで最後まで挑戦したかった。だが、我々にはそんなことをする機会はないという感じだ」

このタイミングでの退団の可能性は低そうだが、今夏のタイミングでのランス退団は既定路線かもしれない。
