カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)準々決勝でクロアチア代表と相まみえたブラジル。延長戦に入ってその前半にFWネイマールのゴールで先制したが、後半終盤に追いつかれ、PK戦で力尽きた。

優勝候補と目されながらも、儚く消えた20年ぶりとなる載冠の夢。同国内では大きな失望感が漂っている。そうした中、同国サッカー史上最大の英雄である“王様”ペレは自身のインスタグラムを更新。自身も腸がんで闘病中ながら、ブラジル国民、そして代表選手たちを励ますメッセージを投稿した。
「W杯での敗退という痛手はあるものの、ブラジルの人々には私たちが最初に胸に刻んだ5つの星の意味を思い出してほしい。私たちを感動させるのは愛だ」

「理由は何でも良い。重要なのは私たちが結束を必要としているときに、あのチームが私たちを結束させてくれたということだ。そして、私の夢は私たちの間にあるこの気持ちが永遠のものになることだ。目標は不可能に思えるかもしれない。しかし、少年時代には私にも1つの夢があった。それは父のためにW杯で優勝することだった」
「夢といえば、選手たちの夢も終わったと思わないでほしい。私が子供のころ、そうだったように、彼らは今でも6つ目の星を夢見ているのだろう。今回は目標達成が先延ばしになっただけだ」

ネイマールがプロデビューから15年…輝かしかったサントス時代

“サッカーの神様”と呼ばれたジーコ、W杯での輝きと苦しみ

21世紀の出場試合数ランキング発表! 首位は1145試合のC・ロナウド、トップ10に日本人選手がランクイン

「恐ろしい数カ月だった…」レイプ疑惑で逮捕されたダニエウ・アウベス、妻が離別を報告「これからもずっと彼を愛します」

ネイマールがプロデビューから15年…輝かしかったサントス時代
