ネイマールは9日に行われたクロアチア代表とのカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)準々決勝で延長前半終了間際に圧巻のゴラッソを決め、ペレ氏が持っていたFIFA公認の同国代表歴代最多得点記録に並ぶ77ゴール目を挙げた。
しかし、チームは延長後半に追いつかれてPK戦に持ち込まれると、2-4で無念のベスト8敗退に。ネイマールは同試合後に人目はばからずに号泣し、インタビューでは大きな失望を口にしていた。
これを受け、現在母国で入院中のペレ氏は自身のインスタグラムを通じて、ネイマールとセレソンの選手たちへ励ましのメッセージを届けた。

今月20日のこと、EURO2024の予選でポルトガルのクリスティアーノ・ロナウドが代表通算200試合出場という偉業を達成した。もちろん男子選手初となる快挙で、ギネス世界記録にも認定された。ロナウドについて、所属クラブでの栄光はいまさら紹介する必要はないだろう。代表でもW杯5大会連続ゴールというペレでもなしえなかった新記録の他に、通算123ゴールで、それまでイランのFWアリ・ダエイが保持していた代表得点世界記録(109ゴール)も現在更新中だ。 代表通算出場記録に関しては、2位がクウェートのバデル・アル・ムタワの196試合となっているが、1985年生まれの彼がW杯に出場した記録はなく、アジアカップでも予選敗退が1回、グループリーグ敗退が3回だから、通算出場記録がどこまで正しいか疑問が残る。3位がマレーシアのベテランDFソー・チー・アンの195試合で、彼とは1983年のロス五輪アジア最終予選(シンガポールでの集中開催)の第2戦で対戦し、森ジャパンは1-2で敗れた。読者にとってベスト10で聞き覚えのある選手は6位のセルヒオ・ラモス(180試合)、や10位のジャンルイジ・ブッフォン(176試合)くらいだろうか。 話をロナウドに戻すと、彼を初めて見たのは2004年に地元ポルトガルで開催されたEUROだった。まだ19歳になったばかりの“やんちゃ”なストライカーだった。ポルトガルは、フランスやイタリア、スペインほどの観光大国ではないため、リスボンやポルトのホテルは高すぎるのと、リーズナブルなホテルはどこも満室だった。仕方なく知人の伝を頼ってポルト在住の現地の人に予算の範囲で泊まれるホテルを探したもらったところ、北部のギマランエスという初めて名前を聞く都市に滞在することになった。 最近では、FC東京の小川諒也が22-23シーズンを過ごしたヴィトーリアSCのホームグラウンドでもある。交通の便はあまりよくないものの、城壁に囲まれた、中世のヨーロッパを彷彿させる歴史のある街だった。ここを拠点に、オランダ在住のライターNくんがはるばる愛車のゴルフを運転してポルトガルまで来てくれたおかげで、リスボンやポルトを始め、ブラガやコインブラなど南端のアルガルベ以外のスタジアムで試合を堪能した。 ギマランエスではイタリアの2試合を取材したが(デンマーク戦とブルガリア戦)、トッティやデル・ピエロ、ヴィエリ、カッサーノらを擁しながらも退屈なサッカーで、グループリーグ敗退を余儀なくされた。唯一面白かったのがポルトでのスウェーデン戦で、23歳のFWズラタン・イブラヒモビッチの「回転回し蹴り」での同点ゴールは圧巻だった。その彼も昨年で41歳となり、6月4日には電撃的に現役引退を表明したのは寂しい限りだ。 EURO2004での地元ポルトガルはベテランのフィーゴ、ルイ・コスタ、パウレタらがチームを牽引して、国際大会で初の決勝戦進出を果たしたものの、ロングボールを長身FWに合わせるクラシカルなサッカーのギリシャに0-1と敗れて初タイトルを獲得することはできなかった。 しかしこの大会で欧州デビューを果たしたロナウドは、その後は06年のドイツW杯でも初出場を果たすと、W杯は22年のカタール大会まで5大会連続、EUROも20年まで5大会連続出場で、16年のフランス大会では決勝で地元フランスを延長の末に1-0で破って初タイトルを獲得した。さらに18年にスタートしたUEFAネーションズリーグでもロナウドは初代王者に輝いている。現在進行中のEURO2024(ドイツ)の予選でもポルトガルは4連勝で首位に立ち、出場権獲得はほぼ間違いないだけに、ロナウドがどこまで記録を更新するのか楽しみだ。 ちなみに日本人選手の代表最多出場記録は遠藤保仁の152試合で、2位が長友佑都の142試合となっている。Jリーグでも健在ぶりを発揮しているが、日本代表で彼らの記録を更新しそうなのは現在50試合出場の遠藤航か45試合出場の伊東純也あたりだろうか。 2023.06.27 12:00 Tue

表彰見送りの「バロンドール」がドリームチームを発表!現役からはメッシ&C・ロナウドが選出

「恐ろしい数カ月だった…」レイプ疑惑で逮捕されたダニエウ・アウベス、妻が離別を報告「これからもずっと彼を愛します」

ロナウドが日韓W杯での“大五郎カット”を謝罪、奇抜な髪型の裏事情とは?
