セルティックは17日、オーストラリア代表のレジェンドでもあるハリー・キューウェル氏(43)がファーストチームのコーチに就任することを発表した。
現役時代はリーズ・ユナイテッドで名声をあげ、その後はリバプール、ガラタサライ、メルボルン・ビクトリー、アル・ガラファ、メルボルン・シティでプレー。2004-05シーズンはチャンピオンズリーグ(CL)を制するなど活躍した。
またオーストラリア代表としても56試合で17ゴールを記録。“オズの魔法使い”との愛称で親しまれていたレジェンドだ。
引退後はワトフォードのU-23チームで監督を務めて指導者キャリアをスタート。クローリー・タウン、ノッツ・カウンティ、オールダム、バーネットとイングランドの下部リーグで監督業を務めていた。
同じオーストラリア人のアンジェ・ポステコグルー監督とのタッグを組むこととなったキューウェル氏。ポステコグルー監督は、今回の招へいにコメントしている。
「彼はセルティックに加わることを楽しみにしており、クラブの規模や我々の野望をよく理解している。チームに本当にポジティブな変化をもたらしてくれるだろう」
また、コーチに就任したキューウェル氏もコメント。意気込みを語った。

「マリノスしか考えられない」3年ぶりの横浜FM復帰、韓国で逞しさが増した天野純が意気込み…背番号「20」は「好きな選手がつけている」
3年ぶりに横浜F・マリノスへと復帰したMF天野純が、復帰への想いを語った。 13日、横浜FMは2024シーズンに向けた新体制を発表。発表会にはファン・サポーターも集まった中、期限付き移籍からの復帰組を含めた8名の新加入選手も登場し、挨拶や質問に応えた。 発表会後、選手たちはメディア取材に応対。発表会では「アンニョンハセヨ」と韓国語で挨拶して笑いをとるなど、2年間の韓国でのプレーを経て復帰した天野は、復帰への想いを語った。 「マリノスの編成、意向もあるので自分1人の意思で帰ってくることはできなかったですが、両方の思惑が一致したということで戻ってきました」 2022年は蔚山現代FC、2023年は全北現代モータースとKリーグ1の名門クラブでプレー。蔚山ではリーグ優勝も経験し、天野も主軸として活躍。王座奪還を目指す全北現代が関心を持って移籍をすることとなった。 横浜FMからも復帰を求められ、「互いの思惑が一致した」と語った天野。この2年間の韓国でのプレーは胸を張れると振り返った。 「蔚山に行った時はこの決断が正しいかわからなかったですが、蔚山で1年間しっかり戦って結果を残せてリーグ優勝ができて、そこで認められました」 「この移籍の決断は正解だったと胸を張って言えるようになりました。去年は少し苦労しましたけど、実際に見てもらってファン・サポーターに成長を感じてもらいたいです」 このオフの移籍については「韓国内からもオファーはもちろんありました」と語った天野。ただ、「マリノスしか僕は考えていなかったです」と、復帰への思いは強かったようだ。そこには韓国での自信もあり「どのチームでもこの2年間は激しい競争があったので、それで成長できた部分もあるので、楽しみです」と、ハリー・キューウェル新監督の下、横浜FMでもポジション争いをしていくという。 その天野だが、横浜FMではタイトルには縁がない。「Jリーグで初タイトルを獲りたいという思いは常にありますし、それはマリノスしか考えられない。それぐらい愛情があるクラブですし、ファン・サポーターの方の喜ぶ顔を見たいですし、一緒に喜び合いたいです」とコメント。横浜FMに戻り、タイトルを獲る喜びを味わうために戻ってきたと意気込んだ。 背番号はこれまで背負っていない「20」に決定。2021年に背負っていた「14」は吉尾海夏に託したが、その吉尾は2023年に「25」に変更し手放していた。天野は「14番は、(吉尾)海夏が『俺が守っておきます』って言ってたのに「25」に変えて、今は14番はいるので」と語り、「20番は好きな選手がつけているというのもありますし、かっこいいなと思いました」とコメント。好きな選手というのはマンチェスター・シティのポルトガル代表MFベルナルド・シウバだと明かした。 かつては、トップ下でその左足からのパスやキックで攻撃を司った天野。久々の横浜FMでどんなプレーを見せるのか、ファンも楽しみだろう。 2024.01.13 23:20 Sat

東京ヴェルディを率いる城福浩監督が、25日に行われる横浜F・マリノスとの明治安田J1リーグ開幕戦に向けた強い想いを語った。 昨シーズンのJ2リーグを3位フィニッシュし、その後の昇格プレーオフを制して16年ぶりのJ1帰還を果たした東京V。 就任2年目で長らくJ2での低迷が続いた緑の名門を“いるべき舞台”に戻した百戦錬磨の指揮官は、今季J1で最年少となる平均年齢24.1歳の若きスカッドを率い、日本のトップカテゴリーでの戦いに挑む。 その初陣を飾る新シーズンの開幕戦は、1993年5月15日に行われたJリーグの開幕カードであり、“クラシコ”、“ナショナル・ダービー”とも称される、横浜FMとの黄金カード。 さらに、通常は味の素スタジアムを本拠地として使用する東京Vだが、試合会場は31年前に開幕カードが開催された国立競技場。両クラブを長らく応援してきたファン・サポーターのみならず、Jリーグの黎明期を知るJリーグファンにとって、感慨深い一戦となることは間違いないはずだ。 昨年12月末の開幕カード決定以降、幾度となくその開幕戦について触れてきた城福監督は、大一番を2日後に控えた公式会見の場で改めて横浜FM戦に向けた強い想いを語った。 「もちろん、J1リーグでの我々の立ち位置からすると、簡単な戦いにはならないですが、それでも楽しみでしかない。選手と一緒にここまで積み上げてきたものを、どれだけ出せるか、出せるはずだという思いもあります」 「一瞬の隙を与えれば、仕事をする選手たちが相手にもいるので、痛い目にも合うでしょうが、我々の積み上げてきたものを、確かめたいという思いが強いです」 「どのチームもそのときの全てを懸けてやってきました。そこに差はないですが、ヴェルディのこの経てきた歴史というか、これはもうどのクラブにもない紆余曲折が詰まったというか、その歴史というのはもう、その言い方が正しいかどうか分かりませんが、どこにも真似のできない唯一無二のは良いことも悪いこともあったので…。だからこそ、開幕戦がマリノス戦という舞台が用意されたのではないかと思います」 「この用意されたものというのは、やはり歴史のなせるわざなのかなというふうに思いますし、改めてヴェルディのブランドと言うべきか、ヴェルディが持ちうる可能性を感じさせられた、この年末年始でした。Jリーグに全体に影響を及ぼすような注目度のなかで良い試合ができれば、今後JJリーグの価値に対しても影響を及ぼせるのではないかというぐらいの思いでやりたいと思います」 また、ハリー・キューウェル新監督を迎えた昨季J1リーグ2位の横浜FMについては、直近に行われたAFCチャンピオンズリーグのバンコク・ユナイテッド戦の2試合を見た上で、これまで同様に攻撃的な思考を強く持ったチームとの印象を抱いている。 「攻撃的な思考であることは変わらない印象はありますし、今まで主力を担ってきた選手たちが変わらずいるので、攻撃の特徴っていうのは、変わらないと思います。ただ、特にサイドバックのアグレッシブさというのはまた、より強固になったなというふうに思います」 「何にも増して、ACLを2試合経験しているので、そういう意味でのゲーム慣れをしているというか、良い時間帯も悪い時間帯も含めて、もう2試合経験してきています」 その難敵相手にJ1・大舞台での経験が少ない若きスカッドで臨む上では相手の対策を頭に入れながらも、まずは自分たちのスタイルの徹底、チームとして最大値を出すことを注視している。 「ゲーム慣れしているマリノスに対して我々は初めてのゲームというところだけは気をつけなければいけないですが、それ以外のところに関しては、もう我々の持っているもの全てをぶつけるのみだと思います」 「まずは、自分たちの今持っているものを全て出さしてあげられる状況にしたい。相手対策に偏りすぎず、相手をリスペクトしすぎず、リスクを考えすぎず、ただ先鋭的な戦術に偏りすぎず、しっかりベーシックなものも頭に入れながら、我々の思うところの12時のところにしっかりと針を整えて、ピッチに立たせたい。何よりも自信を持たせて、キックオフを迎えさせてあげたいです」 「今まで今年に入ってからずっと言ってきましたが、チームとして感覚を共有しながら腰が引けたサッカーだけはやらない。これだけは間違いない。我々らしく全員でリスクを背負う。リスクがないサッカーはないので、全員で共有しながらゲームに入りたいです」 最後に、清水エスパルスとの昇格プレーオフ決勝同様に5万人以上の観客の来場が見込まれるビッグマッチに向けては、黄金期を知る往年のファン、新たに興味を持ってくれた新規のファンに対して、新たなヴェルディのサッカーを披露すると共に、低迷期も献身的にクラブを支えたサポーターに報いる戦いを見せたいと、強い覚悟を示した。 「僕は2022年6月に着任しましたが、当時おそらく、ホームの平均入場者数が5000人ぐらい。5000人を切るときもありました。そういう意味では、本当にずっと苦しいときに、応援し続けてくれた方たちとともに戦っていたと思います」 「それが、1年半後にはその10倍の観客の中で戦うわけです。これは、おそらくこのクラブのフロントも選手も経験したことがない。もっと言えば、22年の6月には想像もできなかったことです」 「それでも、ヴェルディのこういう試合を待っていた方々がいるという事実。クラブが元々持っていたポテンシャルというのは頭で分かっていましたが、実際に形としていろんなものが情報として入ってきているので、改めてさすがヴェルディ、やっぱりヴェルディは捨てたもんじゃないなと。ヴェルディを待ってくれてた方というのは本当にいるんだなと。それは本当に苦しいときがあったからこそ、そういう反作用が起こったんじゃないかと思います」 「これが順風満帆で資金的にも環境的にも、20年前と変わらない状況でJ2でやっていたのであれば、おそらくこんな作用にならなかったと思います。本当に苦しい状況が分かっていたからこそ、おそらくこういう現象が僕らから見て感じられるのかなというふうに思います」 「(監督としての)目標はとにかくヴェルディがどこに向かっているのかを見せること。だから負けてもいいわけじゃない、J1にいなきゃいけないんです。ただ、新しいヴェルディというのは、単語だけじゃなくて、こういうサッカーをするんだと、これを目指してるんだということが、見に来てくださる方々に、サッカーに詳しい方にはそれなりに分かるだろうし、そうじゃないビジターの方々にも、何となくヴェルディちょっと尖ってるよね。というふうに思わせるサッカーをしない限り、丸いサッカー(オーソドックス)をやったら、我々はJ1で一番小さい丸なので、それでは勝てないと考えています」 「僕はどのクラブでもそうですが、一番我々がサポーターの方々の存在を感じるのは、やっぱり苦しいときに背中を押してくれるときなんですよ。現場は順風満帆ではないですから。そうではないときに、やっぱり人間というのは背中を押してくれる存在がいて、救われることがあります。だからこそ、この15年のスパンで見ても苦しいときに背中を押してくれるサポーターがいて、僕がやった1年半のときでも、本当に苦しいときに押してくれた存在がいるので、とにかく彼らを喜ばしてあげたいと思うし、彼らと一緒に喜び合いたいと思います」 2024.02.24 20:27 Sat

「日本は特別な場所であり続ける」成績不振で横浜FMと契約解除のキューウェル氏が感謝のメッセージ「近い将来戻って来れることを願っています」

「知らなかったからビックリした」セルティック加入井手口陽介の上半身タトゥーに驚きの声

サラサラヘアからゆるめパーマに!セルティック古橋亨梧の変貌に英メディアまで反応!「見違える」
