モドリッチは6日にホームで行われたUEFAネーションズリーグ(UNL)2022-23リーグA・グループ1第2節のフランス代表戦に先発出場。クロアチア代表の最多出場記録をさらに更新する通算150キャップ目に到達した。

『UEFA.com』で「素晴らしい気持ちだ。嬉しいし誇りに思う」と心境を明かしていた36歳には、相手チームも敬意を表した。「MODRIC」「150」のネームが入ったフランス代表のユニフォームをプレゼントした。

2018年ロシア・ワールドカップ決勝でも顔を合わせたフランスの指揮官、ディディエ・デシャン監督とモドリッチが肩を組み、記念撮影を行った姿を『ESPN』が掲載した。

「フランスはレジェンドに敬意を示した」との一枚には、「誰もがモドリッチを愛しています」「クラスは永遠」「こういうの好き」「ルカは伝説的です」「おめでとう」など、ファンからもピッチの魔術師を称える声が届いている。

なお、試合は1-1の引き分けに終わっている。
