1956年に創設され、フットボール界で最も威厳のある個人賞に位置づけられるバロンドール。新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大で選出なしの一昨年を経て、2年ぶりに開催の昨年は自身が持つ史上最多受賞回数を「7」に更新するアルゼンチン代表FWリオネル・メッシの載冠となった。
だが、メッシの受賞を巡ってはその当初から賛否両論を呼び、バイエルンのポーランド代表FWロベルト・レバンドフスキこそが相応しいとの声も。そのなかで、613ポイントのメッシに対して、121ポイントの7位に終わったサラーの投票結果にも各方面から疑問の声が相次いだ。
イギリスの地元紙『リバプール・エコー』によると、サラーが『DMC』で昨年11月にその最終結果が発表されてから3カ月が経ったバロンドールの結果に本音を漏らした。
「バロンドールの結果は僕にとって、ショッキングなものだった」

2人のマク・アリスターがELで実現した兄弟対決を振り返る、兄「苦しんだのは弟のせい」弟「家族にとって特別なもの」
