メジャー・リーグ・サッカー(MLS)で物の投げ込みによって選手が負傷する事態が発生した。

11日、MLSプレーオフ決勝戦(MLSカップ)のポートランド・ティンバーズvsニューヨーク・シティの一戦が行われた。先制に成功したのはNYシティ。41分にFWバレンティン・カステジャノスがゴールを奪い、チームメイトはタッチライン際に集まって喜びを分かち合った。
その輪に加わろうと、MFヘスス・メディナも駆け寄っていく。すると、そのタイミングでスタンドからビール缶のような物が投げ込まれ、メディナの頭部に直撃。不意を突かれたメディナは顔を押さえて倒れ込んでしまった。

ドクターのチェックが入ったが、幸なことに支障はなくメディナはプレーを続行。『ESPN』によれば、物を投げ入れた観客は退場を命じられたとのことだ。
このような蛮行にはファンも怒り心頭の様子。「選手に物を投げたファンは追い出す必要がある、シンプルで簡単」、「他の世界のサッカーのように情熱を示しているが、いいことではない」、「私はゴミを見た、至るところに」、「退場させただけ?暴行罪で起訴されることを願っています」などの厳しい声が届けられた。

11月21日のリーグ・アン、リヨンvsマルセイユでもマルセイユMFディミトリ・パイエに対してスタンドからボトルが投げ込まれ、試合中断となる事態が起きていたばかり。繰り返されるべき行為ではない。

なお、試合はティンバーズは後半のアディショナルタイムに追い付き、延長戦へ突入。120分でも決着はつかず、PK戦の末にNYシティが初優勝を飾っている。

かつて日本を苦しめたアメリカ女子代表FWアレックス・モーガンが新規参入チームへ電撃移籍「スタートが待ちきれない」

アメリカでサッカーは人気なし?代表ユニフォームが間違ってバスケコーナーで売られる現実「女子は4回W杯優勝しているのに」
