7日、東京オリンピック男子サッカー決勝のU-24スペイン代表vsU-24ブラジル代表が行われた。

共に金メダル候補に挙げられている中での決勝。互いに譲らない状況で試合が進む中、前半終了間際にブラジルが先制する。
先行を許したスペインだったが、後半早々にミケル・オヤルサバルが同点ゴール。そのまま延長戦へと突入すると、延長後半にマウコムにゴールを許し、1-2で敗戦。銀メダルに終わった。

スペインにとっては、2000年のシドニー・オリンピック以来のメダル獲得となった中、デ・ラ・フエンテ監督が試合後にコメント。今は悲しくとも、成し遂げたことの大きさを評価した。
「金メダルを失ったのではなく、銀メダルを獲得した。選手には悲しみや不満もあることは理解している。時間が経過し、朝になれば、選手たちは自分が達成したことの偉業に気がつくだろう」

「私はピッチの内外での行動をとても誇りに思っている。オリンピックで敗れた優雅さも含めてだ」

「私が感じている幸せはただ1つ。これまで経験してきたことに満足していること。金メダル獲得という目的に向かって、努力している並外れた選手たちを率いたことだ」

また、チームとしては金メダルを目指し続けられたことを評価。誇りに思うと選手たちを称えた。

「このグループによって達成されたことを評価したいと思う。金メダルのために戦うという目的を持っていた。そして、我々は最後の瞬間までそれをした」

「もう1つは、誰もがこのチームを誇りに思うことだった。我々もそうだった。将来にさらに価値がある銀メダルだ」

バスク代表が今後、公式戦参加? 選手市場価値は欧州17位

個人四冠、スペイン女子MFボンマティのバロンドール受賞を仲間が祝福!トロフィー付きのケーキに記念パネル「これは素晴らしい」

「僕はスペイン人」18歳ハイセンが母国オランダに決別…2月にスペイン国籍取得でU-21代表デビュー
