2020年1月にスポルティング・リスボンからユナイテッドに移籍して以来、驚異的な活躍を見せているフェルナンデス。ポルトガル代表にも2017年8月に初召集を受け、プレーしている。

各アンダーカテゴリーの代表にも召集を受けており、U-21の代表チームではキャプテンも務めていたフェルナンデスだが、2017年3月28日に行われたU-21ドイツ代表との国際親善試合では、驚愕のゴールを決めている。

0-0で迎えた25分、ポルトガルが左コーナーキックのチャンスを得る。ボックス内の守りを固める相手の裏をかき、ボックスの外でフリーで待つフェルナンデスにクロスが入ると、高く上がったボールに対して、フェルナンデスがダイレクトボレーシュート。強烈なスピンのかかった豪快なシュートは、GKの前でバウンドしながらゴール左に突き刺さり、見事なロングシュートが決まった。

このゴールが決勝点となり、ポルトガルがドイツを下している。

「高価な食べ物はない」ギネス記録樹立、C・ロナウドのあの肉体の秘訣を専属シェフが明かす
