ウェールズ代表として51キャップを誇り、2016年のユーロ準決勝進出に貢献したコリンズはこれまでカーディフやウェストハム、アストン・ビラ、イプスウィッチでプレー。2018年夏にウェストハムを退団してから無所属が続いた2019年1月にイプスウィッチ入りを果たしたが、同シーズン終了後に退団して、再びフリーの状況だった。
そうしたなか、コリンズは17日、『Soccer AM』に出演。プレミアリーグ通算279試合の出場数を誇る元ウェールズ代表センターバックは「移籍先を探しているのか?」を問われると、「いや、もう終わった。すべてがね。引退したんだ」と返してみて、現役生活に幕を下ろしたことを明かした。

日本人も多くプレーするイングランド女子サッカーの人気沸騰…残り6節で最多入場者数を更新、2月には歴代最多の1試合6万人超
イングランドでの女子サッカー熱はかなり高まりを見せているようだ。 FA女子スーパーリーグ(FAWSL)は、イングランドの女子サッカーの最高峰リーグ。プレミアリーグに所属するトップクラブの女子チームの多くが参戦している。 近年は日本人選手も大量にプレーしており、今シーズンはなでしこジャパンでプレーするMF長谷川唯(マンチェスター・シティ)、MF長野風花(リバプール)、FW宮澤ひなた(マンチェスター・ユナイテッド)、DF清水梨紗、MF林穂之香、FW植木理子(いずれもウェストハム)、FW浜野まいか(チェルシー)、MF籾木結花、MF宝田沙織(共にレスター・シティ)がプレーしている。 その他にもワールドクラスの選手が多くプレーするFAWSLだが、今シーズンの人気は圧倒的だという。 イギリス『BBC』によると、15日にスタンフォード・ブリッジで行われたチェルシーvsアーセナルでは、チェルシーがクラブ記録となる3万2970人を動員したとのこと。この試合により、今シーズンの総入場者数が71万7721人となった。 年々人気が高まっており、2022-23シーズンは過去最高の入場者数を記録。その数は68万9297人であり、すでに今シーズンは記録を更新することとなった。 なお、リーグ戦は残り6節、36試合あり、いかに今シーズンの集客数が飛び抜けているかが分かるだろう。 その要因の1つは男子チームが使用するスタジアムでの試合数が増加したこともあるとされ、スタジアムのキャパシティが大幅に増えたことが影響。ただ、そのキャパシティを埋めるだけの観客が集まることが熱狂を産んでいる。 2月にはアーセナルがマンチェスター・ユナイテッドをエミレーツ・スタジアムに迎えた試合で、6万160人を動員。これはFAWSL史上最高記録となっている。 2024.03.20 13:10 Wed
