母国でのプロデビューを経て、オランダへ渡ったスアレスは2007年夏にアヤックスに移籍。2011年1月にリバプールに引き抜かれるまで、公式戦159試合111ゴールを挙げている。
オランダでも抜群のセンスを武器に得点を量産していたスアレスだが、2007年8月19日のエールディビジ開幕節、デ・フラーフスハップ戦ではチームメイトとの見事な連携からゴールを決めている。
1-0とアヤックスリードの42分、左サイドでボールを持ったスアレスはドリブルで前に進みつつ、相手の様子を伺う。するとボックス内に走り出したFWヤン・フンテラールの動きを見つけ、すかさず浮き球のパス。そのまま自身もゴール前へ走っていく。

リバプールでオランダ代表CBコンビ形成か デ・リフト「ありえない話ではない」

ベルカンプの名ゴールが紙幣に! 98年W杯のスーパーゴールが描かれた8ユーロ紙幣が誕生
