トッテナムに所属するイングランド代表MFエリック・ダイアーが本職のセンターバックでのパフォーマンス向上に意欲を燃やしている。イギリス『スカイ・スポーツ』が伝えている。
キャリアを通じてセンターバックを主戦場としてきたダイアーだが、トッテナム前指揮官のマウリシオ・ポチェッティーノ監督に守備的MFの適性を見いだされ、トッテナム加入2年目から主戦場は中盤に。
だが、ここ数年はコンディション不良やパフォーマンス低下により、チーム内での序列が下がっていた。しかし、ジョゼ・モウリーニョ監督の就任以降、4バックの2センターバックの一角として起用され始めると、攻守に安定したプレーをみせ、逆転でのヨーロッパリーグ(EL)出場権獲得に貢献した。
また、イングランド代表でも守備的MFでの起用が続いていたが、直近のアイスランド代表戦ではセンターバックとしてプレーし、1-0の勝利に導いていた。
そして、以前からセンターバックへの復帰を希望していたダイアーは、改めて同ポジションで勝負する強い覚悟を持っている。
「もちろん、中盤で素晴らしいシーズンを過ごしたよ。その間、チームは僕がそのポジションでプレーするのに適した形で構成されていたけど、時間の経過とともに別の形に変化していった」

モウリーニョ監督、レアル時代に衝突のカシージャス氏引退に「最も偉大なGKの1人」

カシージャスの心臓発作後に最初に連絡を入れたのはモウリーニョ! 「最初に心配してくれた人」
