マンチェスター・シティが来季に向け、生きる伝説の呼び戻しプランを画策したが、良い返事を得られなかったようだ。イギリス『デイリー・メール』が報じた。

シティは昨年12月、アシスタントコーチだったミケル・アルテタ氏がアーセナル監督就任を理由に退団。それ以来、アシスタントコーチのポジションは空席となっており、ジョゼップ・グアルディオラ監督も来季開幕前の新たな参謀役の擁立を求めているという。

そこで新たなアシスタントコーチとして白羽の矢が立ったのが、名センターバックとしてシティの歴史に名を刻む元ベルギー代表DFヴァンサン・コンパニ(34)だ。昨季限りでエティハド・スタジアムに別れを告げ、選手兼任監督としてアンデルレヒトに今季加入した。

シティは生きる伝説の来季スタッフ入りを目指して、非公式ながらコンパニと会談。しかし、コンパニは2022年まで契約を残しているアンデルレヒトに残留したく、話を断った模様だ。

シティ在籍11年間で主将としてだけでなく、守備者としても存在感を誇り、4度のプレミアリーグ優勝などに貢献したコンパニ。今回こそ断られてしまったが、将来的に指導者として復帰する絵を思い描いているシティの寝顔は叶うのだろうか。

アヤックス、シティの逸材WGボルジェスを獲得! 総額29億円
