イングランド代表FWラヒーム・スターリングは、ロシア・ワールドカップ決勝トーナメント1回戦コロンビア戦で、相手フィットネスコーチであるエドゥアルド・ジュリオ・ウルタサン氏から挑発を受け続けていたことを明かした。

両チーム合わせて8枚のイエローカードが出る荒れた展開となった一戦で、スターリングはコロンビア側から、挑発のターゲットになっていたことを明かした。特に相手フィットネスコーチから激しい挑発を受けていたようだ。

「走っている時に誰かが僕の目の前に飛び出てきたのを覚えているよ」

「何度か水分補給をしに行った時に彼は何かを言い続けていた。僕はスペイン語が分からないから理解はできなかったけど、ハーフタイムの時もそうだった。ただ振り返って彼を見たけど、僕たちは彼らのプランを知っていたし、彼らが何をしようとしているのかも分かっていた」

南米チームの思惑にはまらないためにも「冷静でいることが最も重要だった」と明かした。

「彼のばかげた行為や僕たちにやろうとしていることは分かっていた。ただサッカーに集中し続けたよ。彼らは肉体的に強いチームだ。僕たちの意識をそらすために、できることは何でもしてきた」

激しい挑発を乗り切れた要因にはガレス・サウスゲート監督による事前準備の効果が大きいと感じているようだ。

「大会が始まる前、監督は起こり得ることを全て伝えてくれた。先制される展開から相手が僕たちにイエローカードやレッドカードを出させようとする展開までね。僕たちはただ冷静でいる必要があることは分かっていたよ」

イングランドは7日、準々決勝でスウェーデンと対戦する。

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】

「可愛い!」ペガサスに乗って宙を舞うイングランド代表FWサカの衝撃写真が話題沸騰「この男を愛さないわけにはいかない」
