クリスティアーノ・ロナウドとリオネル・メッシが同日にワールドカップから姿を消すことが決まり、元イングランド代表ギャリー・ネビル氏は残念がった。

30日に行われたワールドカップの決勝トーナメント1回戦でロナウド擁するポルトガル代表とメッシのアルゼンチン代表は、それぞれフランス代表とウルグアイ代表と対戦した。しかし、ポルトガル代表は1-2で競り負け、一方のアルゼンチン代表は打ち合いの末に3-4で敗退。世界のビッグスターが在籍する両国はベスト8進出を逃した。

ロナウドとメッシが大会から姿を消したことを受け、ネビル氏は『ITVスポーツ』で「次のワールドカップでメッシとロナウドを見られなければ残念だ。彼らは本当に素晴らしいプレーヤーなのだから」とスターの敗退について語った。

「メッシの考えでは『これでおしまい』かもしれない。反対にロナウドは永遠に出続けるつもりでいるように映る。彼らは代表から引退できるかって?国中の全ての期待を彼らは背負っているんだ」

メッシと妻は30年来の仲、幼馴染の2人が結ばれW杯で優勝するまで

54歳バティストゥータ氏がチャリティーマッチでゴール!4年前には左足首を人工関節に置換
