日本代表、W杯メンバー選出の難しさ…監督の方針に見る歴史/六川亨の日本サッカーの歩み
前回のコラムの続編をお届けしよう。 4年に一度、W杯最終メンバー発表時における「サプライズ選出」と「サプライズ選外」だが、日本が初出場した98年フランスW杯での"キング"カズこと三浦知良の「メンバー外」は衝撃的であり驚きでもあった。 25名の選手をキャンプに帯同して、最終的に22人にメンバーを絞る――それ自体は悪いことではないと思われたものの、「落選」した3選手の心情に対する配慮が欠けていたことは否めない。 テレビ的にはたぶんに"ショー的要素"があり、ましてや落ちたのがカズだけに多くの反響を呼んだ。しかしJFA(日本サッカー協会)はこの反省を生かし、それ以降のメンバー発表は必ずホテルで、選出された選手のみの発表にとどめてきた。選外となった選手への質問には監督、技術委員長とも一切答えなかった。そしてそれは現在も続いている。 話を20年ほど前に戻すと、カズに続き4年後の2002年日韓W杯でも「サプライズ選出」が続いた。負傷の名波浩から『背番号10』を受け継いだ中村俊輔のメンバー落ちである。代わりに入ったベテランの中山雅史と秋田豊は「サプライズ選出」だったものの、さほど世間の注目は集めなかった。 中村俊の選外については、同じポジションに小野伸二や三都主アレサンドロらがいたためポジションがないとか、彼のプレースタイルをフィリップ・トルシエ監督が嫌ったと言われたものだ。それらも外れた理由の一つかもしれないが、さらなる原因として彼のベンチでの態度を問題視する関係者もいた。 当時の中村俊は6月に24歳になったばかり。2年前には最年少でJリーグの最優秀選手賞と、日本年間最優秀選手賞を受賞するなど選手としてピークにあった。しかし代表の試合でベンチにいると、仲間とチームを応援するというよりは「自分の世界」に閉じこもっている印象を受けた。 選手には、「格」というものがあると思っている。その「格」から言うと、当時のカズも中村俊もベンチスタートの選手ではなかった。ベンチにいてチームを盛り上げるような、"裏方"の選手ではないのだ。だからこそ、「サプライズ選出」はゴンであり秋田だったのかもしれない。地元開催でベスト16進出がノルマとなる、これまで経験したことのないような強烈なプレッシャーのかかる大会では、2人のベテランの力が必要だったのだろう。 2006年のドイツW杯は中村俊を始め中田英寿、小野伸二、小笠原満男、稲本潤一ら中盤にタレントを擁し、なおかつ選手としてピークを迎えているため期待も高かった。「サプライズ選出&選外」はケガの多かったFW久保竜彦に代わり長身選手の巻誠一郎がメンバー入りしたことだろう。 しかし多くのタレントをジーコ監督は使い切れずと言ったら語弊があるかもしれないが、競争原理からメンバーを固定したことで、かえってチームの統率を欠くことになった。ここらあたりが外国人監督の難しさ、日本人のメンタリティーとの違いと言えるかもしれない。 2014年ブラジルW杯のアルベルト・ザッケローニ監督もメンバーを固定する傾向にあり、「サプライズ選出」として2年ぶりに大久保嘉人を代表に復帰させた。しかしジーコ監督と同様に初戦でコートジボワールに1-2と逆転負けすると(ドイツW杯ではオーストラリアに1-3)、固定メンバーの弊害からかチーム内に不協和音が出始める。 続く第2戦で勝っていれば良かったが、ブラジルではギリシャに、ドイツでもクロアチアに0-0と引き分けて窮地に追い込まれ、第3戦で大敗してグループリーグ敗退が決まった。本田圭佑や岡崎慎司、香川真司らがピークを迎えたブラジルW杯だっただけに、もったいない敗退だった。 その一方で、2010年の南アW杯では2度目のチャレンジとなる岡田武史監督がベスト16進出を決めた。34歳のベテランGK川口能活に、出場機会はほとんどないながらもチームのまとめ役を託した。そしてエースの中村俊が右足首からの負傷が最後の最後まで癒えないと判断すると、本田圭佑を中村俊とポジション争いをしていた右MFではなく1トップに抜擢。阿部勇樹をアンカーに、松井大輔と大久保嘉人を両サイドMFに起用する4-1-4-1の布陣を採用してグループリーグ突破に成功した。 この柔軟性は18年ロシア大会の西野朗監督にも当てはまるのではないだろうか。4年前の"絶対的なエース"だった本田と岡崎、香川はヴァイッド・ハリルホジッチ監督の下ではポジションを確約されるかどうか微妙な立場だった。「個人的なスター」を嫌うのはトルシエ監督とそっくりで、それはフランス人のメンタリティーではないかと疑ったものだ。 そんな彼らをジョーカーとしてベンチに置きつつ(香川はスタメンで起用)、要所で起用した。ケガがあったとはいえ岡田監督は中村俊を、西野監督は本田や岡崎にベンチスタートを納得させた。これは、日本人監督ならではの「和をもって貴しとなす」といった選手の起用法ではないだろうか。 そうした視点からすると、繰り返しになるが森保一監督に「サプライズ選出」も「サプライズ選外」もないだろう。注目すべきは誰をスタメンに起用し、ベンチに温存するか。これに関してはカタール入りしてから試合前日まで悩むことだろう。そこで選手の序列に変化があるのかどうか。それも森保監督の采配の見どころと言えるかもしれない。 2022.10.31 19:00 Mon

欧州の登竜門シント=トロイデン、イメージガールの撮影会が決定!公式半被衣装のほかニットワンピや水着撮影も

バイエルンのトゥヘル監督が日本の文化に感銘!来日中に茶道を体験「とても特別な経験」

ラマダンで断食中のコンディションへの配慮! ロジャーズがフォファナの途中交代に言及
