▽2014年ブラジルワールドカップ大陸間プレーオフ2ndレグ、ニュージーランド代表vsメキシコ代表が20日に行われ、2-4でメキシコが勝利した。この結果、2戦合計スコアを3-9としたメキシコが本大会出場を決めている。

▽ホームでの1stレグを5-1で制し、大きなアドバンテージを得たメキシコは、今回の2ndレグも国内組のみのメンバー構成。それでも、14分にはペラルタのゴールで早々に先制する。さらに、29分、33分にもペラルタがネットを揺らして、スコアを0-3とした。2戦合計スコアで1-8として本大会出場をほぼ手中に収めたメキシコは、前半終了間際に与えたPKをGKムニョスがストップするなど、その後も集中を切らさず。後半はニュージーランドに2点を返されるものの、42分にカルロス・ペーニャが得点してダメ押し。北中米カリブ海予選で苦しみプレーオフに回ったメキシコだったが、ニュージーランドに力の差を見せ付けて6大会連続15回目のワールドカップ出場を決めた。
