母国の強豪ペニャロール出身のヌニェスは、2019年夏にアルメリアに移籍し欧州上陸。その1年目にラ・リーガ2部で30試合16ゴールの活躍を披露し、2020年夏に2400万ユーロの移籍金でベンフィカに加入した。
187cmの身長に巧みなドリブル、ゴールへの嗅覚を武器とする万能型センターFWのヌニェスは、新天地でも公式戦44試合で14ゴール12アシストと、初年度としては上々の結果を残す。だが、今シーズンはさらに覚醒。リーグ戦では28試合で26ゴール、自身初のチャンピオンズリーグでも10試合で6ゴールを挙げるなど、公式戦41試合で34ゴールという圧巻の成績を残した。
この活躍には当然ビッグクラブが注目。マンチェスター・シティやバルセロナ、バイエルンなど錚々たるクラブの関心が伝えられる中、1月にはイギリス『スカイ・スポーツ』が、ウェストハムが金銭面でベンフィカと合意していると報じていた。
ただ、フランス『RMC Sport』に勤めるロイク・タンジ記者によると、ヌニェスはチャンピオンズリーグに出られるクラブへの移籍を求めている模様。この理由から、マンチェスタ・ユナイテッドやニューカッスルからのオファーには断りを入れたと伝えられている。

ヌニェスがリバプールの新9番に! フィルミノ退団に伴い番号変更

AIがスタジアムをデザインしたらどうなる?世界のサッカースタジアムをAIでデザインした結果が話題「最高にカッコイイ」「夢が広がる」

ベンフィカ、アシスト王ピッツィと2023年まで契約延長

ポルトガル4部で奮闘する日本人MFがベンフィカでステップアップ中のGK小久保玲央ブライアンを語る
ポルトガル・プリメイラリーガでは、日本代表MF中島翔哉(ポルト)やGK権田修一、DF安西幸輝(ともにポルティモネンセ)、FW前田大然(マリティモ)など日本人選手も多くプレーしている。 新型コロナウイルス(COVID-19)の感染拡大の影響を受けて中断していたリーグ戦も、1部リーグは6月4日に再開することを目指していると発表していた。 そのポルトガルでは、下部リーグでもプレーする日本人選手がいる。ポルトガル4部リーグのモイテンセには、MF穂崎岳志(24)が所属。トップリーグを目指し、日々奮闘している。 穂崎は、千葉国際高校から国士舘大学に進学した後、大学在学時に単身ポルトガルに渡り、3部のエストレーラ・ヴェンダス・ノーバスと契約。現在はポルトガル4部のモイテンセでプレーしている。 その穂崎は、ポルトガル『A BOLA』のインタビューで同じ千葉県出身で、ベンフィカに所属するU-22日本代表GK小久保玲央ブライアン(19)との関係について語った。 日本にいる時には小久保とも全く面識がなかったという穂崎。同じ千葉県出身も年齢は違うこと、また、小久保は柏レイソルの下部組織で育ったこともあり違うサッカー人生を歩んでいた。 しかし、同時期にポルトガルで世界のサッカーに挑戦。今はしのぎを削る者同士、友好関係を築いているという。 「レオはベンフィカのメインチームとのトレーニングを本当に楽しんでいる。19歳でビッグクラブでそうした機会があることにとても満足していると思う」 「彼は若くて素晴らしいGKである(ギリシャ代表GKオディセアス・)ヴラチョディモスについてよく語っている」 小久保は、10日にベンフィカのトップチームでトレーニングに参加することが決定。この先は、デビューすることに意欲を見せているようだ。 「ベンフィカにいることは彼の大きな誇りであり、一生懸命努力している。いつかトップチームでプレーできると信じており、やる気に満ちている。彼の夢はベンフィカのAチームと日本代表でプレーすることであり、彼は今トレーニングに呼ばれたことをとても喜んでいる」 しかし、小久保がポルトガルで適応することに苦しんでいたと語り、今シーズンはとても大きな経験になっているといつも話しているようだ。 「彼はベンフィカはとても大きく、歴史があり、とても良い環境があると言っている。彼にとってとても良い経験になっているだろう」 「日本人には毎日がとても難しい。言葉は特にだ。僕の場合は、ポルトガル語を学んでいたので、全てが簡単になった。もう心地よく、ここの文化も知っている」 「レオもポルトガル語を学んでいるところだ。いい感じだよ。彼は言葉を学ばなければならないと理解し、仲間と話し、勉強しなければいけないと分かっている。今では互いにポルトガル語で話せるようになり、多くの人とコミュニケーションを取れるようになったからとてもいい感じだ」 また、ポルトガルと日本のサッカーの違いについても語った。 「日本のサッカーとはとても異なる。ここではより攻撃的で、より速く、よりパワフルだ」 小久保はしっかりと能力を見せつけ、トップチームのトレーニング参加までステップアップ。それに刺激を受け、スカウトも多く集まる4部でプレー中の穂崎のステップアップにも期待したいところだ。 2020.05.14 20:20 Thu
