リールMFアンヘル・ゴメスがフランス経由でのイングランド代表入りを語った。 プロキャリアの始まりはアカデミー時代から過ごすマンチェスター・ユナイテッドだったアンヘル・ゴメス。次代を担う生え抜き選手として早くから注目され、16歳だった2017年5月にプレミアリーグに途中出場し、プロデビューした。 だが、以降はポジション争いのなかで伸び悩み、2020年夏の退団までにわずか10試合の出場のみに。2020-21シーズン終了後にユナイテッドから延長オファーがあったが、契約満了を選び、リール行きを決断した。 そんな24歳はリール加入後即レンタルでポルトガルのボアヴィスタに飛んだが、そこで公式戦32試合で6得点6アシストをマーク。翌シーズンからリールに復帰すると、昨季は公式戦45試合で2得点10アシストだった。 リールではユナイテッド時代のように攻撃的MFではなく、セントラルMFにディフェンシブMFとプレーエリアを下げるが、継続的な活躍を披露。そして、この9月にイングランド代表から初めて声がかかっている。 イギリス『BBC』によると、アンヘル・ゴメスはこのタイミングでユナイテッド退団を振り返り、正しい選択だったと感じているようだ。 「去ったときは選手としても、人間としても自分を磨くという思いの方が強かった。これまで経験した旅を通じて、いずれはこういうポジションにたどり着く道筋を切り開けると感じていたんだ」 「6歳から所属したクラブを離れ、未知の世界に向かうのは個人的にも大変だった。上り坂の道のりで、多くの困難や辛い瞬間もあったけど、今のポジションにいることで、すべてに価値があった」 2024.09.05 14:55 Thu

イングランド代表から3名が離脱…パーマー、ワトキンス、フォーデンがUNL不参加
イングランドサッカー協会(FA)は3日、UEFAネーションズリーグ(UNL)2024-25に臨むイングランド代表から3選手が離脱したことを発表した。 離脱するのはMFコール・パーマー(チェルシー)、FWオリー・ワトキンス(アストン・ビラ)、MFフィル・フォーデン(マンチェスター・シティ)の3名となる。 イングランド代表の選手たちは3日に集合したが、検査の結果、パーマーとワトキンスに関しては、負傷の回復状況が思わしくなく、リハビリのためにクラブへと戻った。 また、フォーデンは体調不良のため合流せず、そのまま不参加となった。 イングランドは7日にアウェイでアイルランド代表と、10日にホームでフィンランド代表と対戦する。 なお、今回の3人に代わるメンバーの追加招集は予定されていないとのことだ。 2024.09.04 11:20 Wed

グリーンウッドがジャマイカ代表として代表キャリアも復活か…FIFAに変更手続きへ
マルセイユの元イングランド代表FWメイソン・グリーンウッドにジャマイカ代表に変更の動きだ。 2022年1月に恋人に対する強姦や暴行などの疑いで逮捕され、2023年2月に起訴の取り下げで今に至るグリーンウッド。当時の所属先だったマンチェスター・ユナイテッドのキャリア再開は叶わず、昨季にヘタフェへレンタル移籍した後、今夏からマルセイユに完全移籍した。 母国イングランドから遠ざかるような歩みがクラブキャリアで続くが、『The Athletic』によると、ジャマイカ代表としての代表キャリア再開がここで再浮上している。 数カ月前からグリーンウッドの代表入りに取り組むジャマイカサッカー連盟(JFF)はスティーブ・マクラーレン新監督下での実現に新たな一歩として、国際サッカー連盟(FIFA)に正式な変更に申し出る上で必要な登録書類をイングランドサッカー協会(FA)から受け取ったという。 イングランド代表として2020年9月の国際親善試合で1試合のキャップ数をすでに刻むグリーンウッドだが、当時の年齢が21歳未満という条件でも変更可能。グリーンウッドはブラッドフォード生まれだが、父方がジャマイカの国籍で、パスポートを取得できれば問題ないとされる。 ただ、変更時のチェックに時間がかかるといわれ、政府の働きかけでプロセスを早めることができるが、かつてのマイケル・アントニオは2021年9月のジャマイカ代表デビューに漕ぎ着くまで1年を要した。 ちなみに、昨年にもジャマイカ代表変更が噂されたグリーンウッドだが、イギリス『サン』によると、当時はまだイングランド代表でのキャリア再開を模索。だが、新監督がマクラーレン氏になったことで、改めての説得が実を結んだといわれる。 2024.08.24 16:50 Sat
