レスター・シティのMFジェームズ・マディソンのイングランド代表入りの裏に、ブレンダン・ロジャーズ監督のサポートがあったようだ。イギリス『デイリー・メール』が伝えている。

10日にカタール・ワールドカップに向けたイングランド代表メンバー発表された。概ね順当な顔ぶれなった中、マディソンはいわゆるサプライズ枠という格好での選出となった。

ただ、ロジャーズ監督によると、マディソンは一度、イングランド代表のガレス・サウスゲイト監督からのメンバー入りに関する電話を無視してしまったようだ。曰く、掛け直させたことで代表入りが確定したという。
「彼はトレーニングに行く直前にガレスからの電話を取り損ねてしまった。私のオフィスに来てかけ直すよう言ったのだ」

「その後、彼は世界が輝いて見えるかのような喜びと共に部屋から出てきた。素晴らしい瞬間だっただろうね。幸せと安堵に包まれていたよ・彼の心の中にはいろいろな思いが渦巻いていたことだろう」

今季のマディソンはプレミアリーグ12試合で6ゴール4アシストを記録。イングランド代表経験は、デビュー戦となった2019年11月のモンテネグロ代表戦のみとなっており、招集自体が3年ぶりのこととなった。

苦境のトッテナムにまたも負傷者…DFドラグシンはACL断裂で手術へ、半年〜1年の離脱が予想

上空からスパイ? レスター練習場にカメラ搭載ドローンが飛来

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】

イングランド代表のユニフォームが変? ファンが気づいた異変はベテランキットマンのまさかのミス…「間違ってしまった」

「可愛い!」ペガサスに乗って宙を舞うイングランド代表FWサカの衝撃写真が話題沸騰「この男を愛さないわけにはいかない」
