サッカーの王様として知られるブラジルの英雄、ペレ氏が自身の同国代表歴代最多得点記録に並んだブラジル代表FWネイマールにメッセージを送った。

ネイマールは9日に行われたクロアチア代表とのカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)準々決勝で延長前半終了間際に圧巻のゴラッソを決め、ペレ氏が持っていたFIFA公認の同国代表歴代最多得点記録に並ぶ77ゴール目を挙げた。

しかし、チームは延長後半に追いつかれてPK戦に持ち込まれると、2-4で無念のベスト8敗退に。ネイマールは同試合後に人目はばからずに号泣し、インタビューでは大きな失望を口にしていた。
これを受け、現在母国で入院中のペレ氏は自身のインスタグラムを通じて、ネイマールとセレソンの選手たちへ励ましのメッセージを届けた。

「私は君の成長を見てきた。そして、毎日君を応援してきた。ついに、ブラジル代表チームにおいて自分と同じゴール数を達成したことを祝福できる」
「私たちは、これが数字以上のものであることを知っている。アスリートとしての私たちの最大の義務は、インスピレーションを与えることだ。今日、次世代のプロの同僚、そして何よりも、私たちのスポーツを愛するすべての人にインスピレーションを与えることだ」

「残念ながら、今日は私たちにとって最も幸せな日ではなかったが、君は常に多くの人が目指すインスピレーションの源だ。時間が経つほど、私たちの遺産が大きくなることを学んだ。私の記録はほぼ50年前に樹立された。今まで誰もそれに近づくことができなかった。それを君は成し遂げた。それは君の業績の偉大さを証明している」

「しかし、私と同じように、私たちの国を代表することの喜びよりも大きな数字はないことを知っていると思う。私は82歳になった。長い間、ここまでたどり着くために何らかの形で君にインスピレーションを与えられていたと願っている」

3度のW杯制覇にルール変更、誰もが知る「サッカーの王様」ペレの偉業

“サッカーの神様”と呼ばれたジーコ、W杯での輝きと苦しみ

21世紀の出場試合数ランキング発表! 首位は1145試合のC・ロナウド、トップ10に日本人選手がランクイン

「壮大で記憶に残る」ナイキのPVでムバッペvsロナウジーニョが実現!豪炎寺修也も登場で海外ファン歓喜

ロナウドが日韓W杯での“大五郎カット”を謝罪、奇抜な髪型の裏事情とは?
