27日、カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)グループF第2節でクロアチアはカナダと対戦。前半開始早々にアルフォンソ・デイビスのゴールで失点を許したクロアチアだったが、36分にクラマリッチのゴールで追いつくと、前半終了間際にはリバヤのシュートがゴール左隅に決まり、試合をひっくり返す。
後半は膠着状態が続いたが、クロアチアは71分に左クロスをファーサイドで収めたクラマリッチがカットインからゴール左隅に流し込み、3点目。さらに試合終了間際にも相手DFのミスから途中出場のマイェルがゴールネットを揺らし、4-1で逆転勝利した。
今大会初勝利を飾ったクロアチアだが、チームを率いるダリッチ監督は勝利を喜んだものの、強豪ベルギー代表との最終節に向けて気を引き締めた。

「史上最悪」「恥ずかしい」伝統の市松模様が史上最大サイズになったクロアチアの新ユニフォームには酷評の嵐「これ以上酷いものは見たことがない」
