アーセナルのスコットランド代表DFキーラン・ティアニーが、自身の古巣であるセルティックの日本人選手について言及した。スコットランド『サン』が伝えた。
スコットランド生まれのティアニーはセルティックのアカデミー出身。2016年1月に18歳でファーストチームに昇格すると、左サイドバックのレギュラーとしてプレー。公式戦170試合で8ゴール37アシストを記録した。
2019年8月にアーセナルに加入すると、ケガなどに悩まされながらも公式戦110試合で5ゴール13アシストを記録。今シーズンは途中出場なども多いが公式戦23試合で1ゴール1アシストを記録している。
ティアニーは今でもセルティックのファンとして知られるが、そのセルティックは昨シーズンから一気に日本人選手が増加。FW古橋亨梧をはじめ、FW前田大然、MF旗手怜央、MF井手口陽介、DF小林友希、DF岩田智輝と6名が所属。また、アンジェ・ポステコグルー監督もJリーグからやってきたこともあり、日本に縁が強くなっている一方で、チームもリーグ制覇を成し遂げるなど大きく結果を残している。
アーセナルでは日本代表DF冨安健洋とチームメイトであるティアニーは、古巣の日本人選手についてコメント。冨安にそれぞれの選手について教えてもらっていると明かした。
「トミとはよく話をする。僕は日本から来た選手のことはよく知らなかったし、先月サインした2人も同じだ。僕はJリーグを観ていないから、トミに情報と選手としての考えを聞いたんだ」
「前田大然はカタールで開催されたワールドカップの日本代表でトミと一緒にいたね。トミは契約した全ての選手についてポジティブなことを言っていたし、それを聞いてとても嬉しいよ」
また、冨安についてもコメント。両サイドバックでプレーする冨安はライバルにもなるが、良い関係を築いているようだ。
「彼も本当に素晴らしい選手だし、素晴らしいチームメイトだ。とても良い仲間だ」
「僕はいつもトミと話をして、トレーニング場ではセルティックの試合があれば一緒によく観ている。僕は、彼をセルティックのファンにしようとしているんだ(笑)」
ティアニーと言えば、幼少期に当時セルティックでスター選手だった元日本代表MF中村俊輔からスパイクをもらったエピソードが有名。同じ左利きのキックの名手に憧れていたことは有名だが、中村が多くの日本人の憧れでもあると語った。
「おかしな話だけど、僕がセルティックで子供の頃に中村俊輔からスパイクをもらった古い映像をトミが見たらしい。彼はずっと前から気がついていたんだ」

SAMURAI BLUEからなでしこジャパンへエールが送られた。
サッカー日本代表は15日、キリンチャレンジカップ2023でエルサルバドル代表と対戦し、6-0で勝利を収めた。
開始1分でFKから谷口彰悟が代表初ゴールを記録すると、4分には上田綺世が自ら得たPKを決めてこちらも初ゴールをマーク。早々に退場者を出したエルサルバドルを日本が圧倒すると、25分には久保建英、44分には堂安律が押し込み、前半だけで4得点。後半には中村敬斗にも日本代表初ゴール、古橋亨梧にも得点が生まれ、新体制での初白星を手にした。
試合後の挨拶時には、選手たちがなでしこジャパンのユニフォーム姿で周回。7月に開幕するオーストラリア&ニュージーランド女子ワールドカップ(W杯)へ向け、なでしこジャパンへエールを送った。
TV中継では放送に乗らなかったが、日本代表の公式ツイッターがこの様子を掲載。「これは貴重な映像ですね」、「この声援がなでしこJAPANに届くといいですね」、「男子も似合う」、「良いねこういうの」、「女子を応援する男子、かっこいいな」、「(川﨑)颯太似合ってるやんw」、「男子選手の協力に感謝!」などの声がファンから寄せられた。
また、モデルやスポーツキャスターなどで活躍する長谷川ゆうさんも「こーゆーの嬉しいよね。やっぱりこのユニ可愛い、欲しくなるなー。。」とのリプライを残した。「サンライズ」をテーマにしたユニフォームは、試合での着用は女子のみだが、販売用には「ウィメンズシルエット」と「メンズシルエット」のいずれも展開されている。
なでしこジャパンは、7月14日にパナマ女子代表との壮行試合を行ったのちに現地へ出発。ニュージーランドで同22日にザンビア女子代表、同26日にコスタリカ女子代表、同31日にスペイン女子代表と、グループステージで対戦する。

20日、2026年北中米ワールドカップ(W杯)アジア最終予選第7節のバーレーン代表戦に臨む日本代表のスターティングメンバーが発表された。
ここまで6試合を戦い、5勝1分けの無敗で首位を独走している日本。バーレーンに勝利すれば8大会連続8度目のW杯出場が決定。3試合を残しての決定は史上最速となる。
ホームでの一戦となるバーレーン戦は順当に主力組がスタメンに並ぶことに。GKは鈴木彩艶、3バックは板倉滉、瀬古歩夢、伊藤洋輝が並んだ。
ボランチは遠藤航と守田英正となり、右ウイングバックに堂安律、左に三笘薫が入り、シャドーは久保建英と南野拓実。1トップは上田綺世となった。

世界的に有名な元ポルノ女優のミア・ハリファさん。現在は引退しており、インフルエンサーとして活躍しているが、実は大のサッカーファンとしても知られている。
現在29歳のミアさんは、スポーツ好きであり、特にサッカーがお気に入り。レバノン出身で、8歳の時に不安定な国内情勢の影響でアメリカへ家族と共に亡命していた。
世界的にも人気を博したミアさんはウェストハムのファンであることを公言。プレミアリーグのドリームチームを自身で組むなど、サッカーへの愛が非常に強いことでも知られている。
そのミアさんはYouTubeチャンネルの『AFTV』に出演。自身のお気に入りの現役選手3名を選ぶという企画に参加した。
しかし、ミアさんは現役選手ではなく、かつてマンチェスター・ユナイテッドでプレーし、イングランド代表のレジェンドでもあるデイビッド・ベッカムをまず挙げることに。「私は女性なのでベックスと言わざるを得ないわ」とコメント。理由が実に斬新で「12歳の時の私よりも高い声で彼が話すのを聞く度に、いつも笑わせてもらうわ。とても楽しいの」と、ベッカムの高い声がどうやらお気に入りらしい。
そして2人目に挙げたのがこれまた現役選手ではなく、ユベントスやレアル・マドリーで活躍し、フランス代表のレジェンドでもあるジネディーヌ・ジダンをピックアップした。
ジダンを選んだ理由については「ジネディーヌ・ジダンはサッカーを見てきた中で、最もエキサイティングだった」と、こちらは真面目にサッカー面でお気に入りの選手とのこと。ただ「私は暴力的なものが好きだけど、サッカーはバタバタしていて嫌になるわ。でもヘッドバッドは史上最高の瞬間だったわね」と、2006年のドイツW杯決勝でジダンがイタリア代表DFマルコ・マテラッツィに見舞った頭突きがお気に入りだという。
そして3人目に挙げたのが現役選手。唯一選ばれた現役選手はセルティックに所属し、カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)にも出場したオーストラリア代表MFアーロン・モーイだ。
日本代表FW前田大然、MF旗手怜央、FW古橋亨梧、MF井手口陽介とチームメイトとして今シーズンプレー。かつてはウェスタン・シドニー・ワンダラーズでMF小野伸二(北海道コンサドーレ札幌)共プレーしたことがある。
モーイを選んだ理由については、「フットボール界のカワイ・レナードのようなものね」と語り、NBAのロサンゼルス・クリッパーズに所属するバスケットボールプレーヤーに例え、「モーイはレナードのように行動する。カメラは苦手だし、ちょっとおっちょこちょいだけど、それを感じさせないわ」と語り、「わからないけど、彼を思い出すの。カワイ・レナードは良い男よ」と、またしても独特な理由で選出していた。

セルティックに所属する日本代表FW古橋亨梧のイメチェンにスコットランド『サン』が海を越えて注目している。
今シーズンのスコティッシュ・プレミアシップで36試合に出場し27ゴールを決めて得点王に輝くと、年間最優秀選手にも選出。チームのリーグ連覇と3冠に大きく貢献した古橋。その活躍が認められたのか、久々に6月の日本代表メンバーにも招集された。
その古橋は日本へ帰国。8日にはフジテレビ系列で放送されている「めざましテレビ」にも出演したが、セルティックでプレーしていた時のサラサラなマッシュヘアではなく、やや髪色を暗くしてパーマをかけてボリュームを出した新しいヘアスタイルで登場した。
古橋の新しい髪型は、6日に行われたヴィッセル神戸vsバルセロナの一戦を訪れたTBSの三谷紬アナウンサーも自身のSNSで公開していたが、帰国に合わせてイメージチェンジしたようだ。
すると、『サン』が古橋の変化に注目。「セルティックのスターがイカした見違えるような新ヘアスタイルを日本のテレビの生中継で披露」という記事をアップし、「セルティックのスターはスコットランドで印象的な金髪など様々なスタイルを披露してきたが、今はよりボリュームと長さを備えた、元々の暗い色の髪に戻しているようだ」と綴った。
セルティックを率いていたアンジェ・ポステコグルー監督が就任したトッテナムを筆頭に、プレミアリーグ勢や他クラブからも関心が寄せられている古橋の注目度はかなり高いようだ。
