オーストラリア代表がアジアサッカー連盟(AFC)=アジアの舞台で戦うことは是か非か。現在開催中のアジアカップ「文化展示会」におけるオーストラリアのブースがあまりに“雑”だとして、同国メディア『news.com.au』は論争の再燃を心配しているようだ。イギリス連邦の一角をなすオセアニアの大国・オーストラリア。そのサッカー史を振り返ると、1882年に最初のサッカー連盟が設立され、1966年に隣国ニュージーランドと協力してオセアニアサッカー連盟(OFC)を設立。2006年にOFCを脱退し、アジアサッカー連盟(AFC)へと転籍する。
オーストラリア代表は同年のドイツ・ワールドカップ(W杯)にOFC(オセアニア)代表として出場するも、アジア杯2007予選からAFCの一員に。以後、W杯とアジア杯の本大会全てに出場。アジアを代表する強豪となった。
現在はアジア杯2023に参戦中だが、大会を記念して開催地カタールで催されている「文化展示会」におけるオーストラリアのブースがあまりに“雑”だとして、『news.com.au』が嘆きの論調を展開している。
「AFCにおけるオーストラリアの立場は、長い間議論の的となってきた。2006年にオセアニアからアジアへ向かった最大の目的は、男子A代表がW杯に出やすくすることだったわけだが、他にはアジア杯などへの参加でオーストラリアの存在をポジティブにアピールすることでもあった」
これを受けて『news.com.au』がフットボール・オーストラリア(FFA/サッカー連盟)に問い合わせたところ、各国のサッカー連盟はブースに関与しておらず、FFAも自国のブースが雑な扱いを受けていることを把握していなかったとのこと。今度はFFAがAFCに説明を求めると、AFCも「把握してなかった」と返答したようだ。
FFAは『news.com.au』を通じ、「各所にヒヤリングしたところ、文化展示会は現地の民間が主体となった取り組みであることがわかりました。アジア杯のような国際イベントにおいてオーストラリアンフットボールを表現すること、そしてブランディングを行うことは非常に重要です。我々は今後も、国際舞台でオーストラリア代表の存在をポジティブに感じてもらえるよう努めていきます」と談話を発表している。

10日、AFC U17女子アジアカップ2024の第2節がインドネシアで行われ、U-17日本女子代表はU-17オーストラリア女子代表と対戦し、1-4で勝利した。
上位3カ国はドミニカ共和国で今年行われU17女子ワールドカップの出場権を獲得できる今大会。初戦のタイ戦で4-0と勝利していた日本は、8名を変更して臨んだ。

C大阪時代以来のオーストラリア代表復帰! Aリーグ得点ランキング首位のタガート「いつも頭の片隅に」
パース・グローリーのFWアダム・タガート(30)が、セレッソ大阪時代以来のオーストラリア代表復帰だ。豪『news.com.au』が伝えている。 2021〜22シーズンにC大阪でプレーしたタガート。21年は明治安田J1リーグで12試合1得点、22年は20試合5得点を記録し、翌23年からAリーグ・メンのパース・グローリーへと移籍した。 豪代表にはカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)アジア予選ごろから定着し、C大阪加入当初は主力級として活躍。しかし、ケガもあって次第に招集外となり、本大会メンバーからも落選する。 失意のままにC大阪を退団、母国に戻ったが、2023-24シーズンのタガートはキャリアハイペースで得点を量産中。ここまでリーグ戦19試合で15得点を叩き出し、得点ランキング首位に立つ。 すでに30歳を迎え、2026年W杯のころにはベテランの域に達しているわけだが、この活躍が認められて約2年ぶりの代表復帰ということに。 久々の招集についてタガートは「いつも頭の片隅にあった…サッカーを楽しみ、ゴールを決めていれば、いつか必ず豪代表に戻れると信じてきた。今季はその確信もあったよ」とコメントした。 タガートは韓国・水原三星ブルーウィングス時代の2019シーズンにKリーグ1得点王。イングランド・フルアムにも在籍経験があり、豪代表では通算17試合6得点を記録している。 豪代表は今月の代表ウィークで、2026年北中米W杯アジア2次予選の第3節・第4節でレバノン代表との2連戦。レバノンは国内の武装勢力ヒズボラが隣国イスラエルとの交戦状態にあるため、今回はホーム&アウェイ共に豪州で開催される。 2024.03.19 15:25 Tue

オーストラリア敗退の危機、インドネシアに敗戦で最下位…開催国カタールは後半AT13分の劇的勝利でベスト8進出決定【AFC U23アジアカップ】

「漫画かよ」「ドラマがあるなぁ」“救世主”三笘薫と中村憲剛氏の13年前の姿にファンも感激「エモすぎる」
