イングランド代表は8日、一時離脱していたFWラヒーム・スターリングがチームに復帰することを報告した。

スターリングがチームから離れたのは、4日に行われたラウンド16のセネガル戦の直前のこと。チームは「家族の事情」と具体的な理由を伏せたが、イギリス『BBC』などが、イギリスに残した家族のいる自宅が強盗に襲われたと伝えていた。

そのため、セネガル戦は欠場していたスターリングだが、10日に行われるフランスとの準々決勝に先立ち、9日に再合流する見通しとなったようだ。

なお、スターリングはここまで初戦のイラン戦とアメリカ戦の2試合に出場。イラン戦では1ゴール1アシストを記録した。

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】
