カタール・ワールドカップでグループステージ敗退の危機に瀕しているウルグアイ代表のルイス・スアレスが、最終節を前に一致団結を誓った。

ここまでのウルグアイは、0-0で引き分けた初戦の韓国戦から、第2戦ではポルトガルに完敗し、勝ち点1で最下位に位置。最終節でカーナに勝てなければ敗退となってしまう状況だ。

チームでは不調の原因を問われたエディンソン・カバーニがふてくされたように「知らない。監督に聞いてくれ」と答えたり、ホセ・ヒメネスが誰も勝つ気がなかった」とコメントするなど、若干暗い雰囲気が漂っている様子・

しかし、ここまで不発のスアレスは腐ることなく、最終戦での団結を約束。「信じてほしい」と応援を呼びかけた。

「敗戦というのはどんな状況でも受け入れ難いけど、ワールドカップではなおさらだ。僕らは団結しなければならないし、言い訳を探す必要はない」

「勝って次に進まなければならない。それが僕たちの目標だ。全てを出し切るから信じて欲しい」
