イングランド代表としてカタール・ワールドカップに参戦中のルーク・ショーだが、開幕直前に祖母の死に直面していたようだ。

今大会においてグループステージ全3試合に先発出場し、チームの決勝トーナメント進出に貢献したルーク・ショー。初戦のイラン戦ではジュード・ベリンガムの攻撃をアシストした。

大車輪の活躍を見せるショーだが、実は大会前に祖母の訃報があった模様。イギリス『アスレティック』のインタビューで明かし、ガレス・サウスゲイト監督からは慰めの言葉がったという。

「悲しいことに、祖母が大会前に亡くなったんだ。長い間ガンを患っていて、亡くなったのは初戦の直前だったよ」

「でも、ガレスは本当によくしてくれて、『大丈夫か?』と言ってくれた。時間が必要かと尋ねてくれたんだ」

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】
