イングランド代表のガレス・サウスゲイト監督が、カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)の初戦勝利を喜んだ。イギリス『スカイ・スポーツ』が伝えた。

56年ぶり2度目の優勝を目指す前回大会4位のイングランドは、21日に行われたグループB第1節のイラン代表戦を6-2で圧勝した。

最高の白星スタートを切ったイングランドだが、チームを率いるサウスゲイト監督は勝利を喜んだものの、予選突破にはチームのレベルをさらに上げないといけないと気を引き締めた。

｢大差で勝てたこと、試合の大半を我々のペースで進められたこと、本当に嬉しく思っている。イランはゴールを決めるのが難しいと知っていたので、選手たちの動き、パスの質、そしてフィニッシュが素晴らしかったと思うよ｣

｢ただ、試合終盤にあのような形で失点してしまったことは、我々にとって必要のないことだった。アメリカは全力で向かってくるので、今日の試合よりも良くなければならない｣

｢後半はアディショナルタイムが多くて流れが悪くなってしまった。試合に流れがあるのは分かるが、あれでは勝ち進むことはできない。予選突破のためには、まだまだやらなければならないことがたくさんある｣

また、この試合で途中交代したハリー・マグワイアとハリー・ケインの状態を問われたサウスゲイト監督は、｢マグワイアは体調不良で、ゴールの直前にそれを知らせていた。試合の状況をみても無理して続ける必要はなかった。その以外は特に心配するようなことはない｣

｢ハリー(・ケイン)も問題ないだろう。悪質なタックルに見えたが、彼は試合を続けていたし、我々が彼を交代させたのはそうすべきタイミングが来たと感じたからだ｣

イングランド代表が新ユニフォームを発表、赤ではなくなったアウェイは賛否分かれる「初めてじゃないか?」「そのチョイスはなしだ」

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】

相手が恐れる右手…ストライカーの完成形と呼ばれた男、アラン・シアラー
