スペイン代表歴のあるイニャキ・ウィリアムズがガーナ代表を選択、カタールW杯出場へ

アスレティック・ビルバオのイニャキ・ウィリアムズ(28)が5日、自身のツイッターでガーナ代表を選択することを発表した。

ガーナ人の父親、リベリア人の母親を持つイニャキ・ウィリアムズは、両親のスペイン移住によってビルバオで誕生。

アスレティックで頭角を現し、主力に成長したイニャキ・ウィリアムズは2016年5月に行われたボスニア・ヘルツェゴビナとの国際親善試合でスペイン代表デビューを飾っていた。

しかし、直後に行われたユーロ2016ではメンバーに選出されず、その後はスペイン代表でプレーする機会はなかった。

当時からガーナ代表への変更を協会から切望されていたイニャキ・ウィリアムズだったが、カタール・ワールドカップ出場を決めているガーナ代表をこの度選択することになった。

イニャキ・ウィリアムズはガーナ代表への変更について｢ガーナが僕ら家族に与えてくれたものの一部を返したいんだ｣とコメントしている。

サッカー界現役最速は誰!? トップ10には意外な選手も?
