ドイツ遠征の日本高校サッカー選抜が発表! デュッセルドルフやフランクフルトなどと対戦

第2次森保ジャパンの初陣となる24・28日のウルグアイ・コロンビア2連戦(東京・大阪)。3年後の2026年北中米W杯に向けた強化がいよいよスタートする。そのメンバー26人が発表されたが、30代はシュミット・ダニエル(シント=トロイデン)、遠藤航(シュツットガルト)、伊東純也(スタッド・ランス)の3人だけ。大幅な若返りが図られた印象だ。右サイドバック(SB)はその筆頭ではないか。2014年ブラジル・2018年ロシア・2022年カタールと3度のW杯に参戦した32歳の酒井宏樹(浦和レッズ)と29歳の山根視来(川崎フロンターレ)が揃って外れ、20代前半の3人が名を連ねることになったからだ。最年長は23歳の橋岡大樹(シント=トロイデン)だが、彼も2019年E-1選手権(釜山)で2試合に出場しただけ。22歳の菅原由勢(AZ)にしても、欧州組だけで挑んだ2020年10月のカメルーン戦(ユトレヒト)で終盤にピッチに立ったのみである。半田陸(ガンバ大阪)に至ってはパリ五輪世代でA代表実績は皆無。3人のバトルは見ものだ。こうした中、森保監督が最も注目していると見られるのが菅原だろう。実際、2月の欧州視察時には、アルクマールまで直々に出向いている。現地を訪れたのは、2月10日のエクセルシオール戦。翌11日にはフライブルク対シュツットガルト戦を見に行っているから、凄まじい強行日程だったのは間違いない。そこまでリスクを冒しても、菅原のパフォーマンスをその目で確認したかったということになる。やはり期待値は非常に高いのだ。「由勢のチームの中での立ち位置が明らかに変わっているなと感じました。以前はレギュラーを取るために戦っていましたが、今はチームの中心選手として周囲から信頼されている。しかも、AZはオランダという素晴らしいリーグで優勝争いをしている。欧州5大リーグに近いレベルの国でトップを争うチームで戦っているのはすごく評価できるところ。簡単なことではない」と森保監督も語っており、成長した姿を代表で見せつけてほしいと願っているのだ。もともと菅原は10代の頃から「内田篤人(JFAロールモデルコーチ)の後継者」と目され、2017年U-17W杯(インド)・2019年U-20W杯(ポーランド)を経験してきたエリートだ。メディアの質問にも自分の言葉で理路整然と答えられる賢さとコミュニケーション力を備えており、19歳で赴いたオランダでもすぐさま適応できる社交性も持ち合わせていた。東京五輪は2000年生まれで一番下の学年ということもあって惜しくも選外となったものの、本人は挫折を糧に成長を続け、着実にスケールアップしている。この4シーズンでほぼコンスタントに国内リーグ戦に出続けているうえ、2019-20シーズンはヨーロッパリーグ、2021-22・2022-23シーズンにはヨーロッパ・カンファレンスリーグに参戦しているという欧州舞台の経験値も魅力。それは他の右SB陣が持ち合わせていないものだ。こうした実績もあり、カタールW杯直前に中山雄太(ハダースフィールド・タウン)が負傷離脱した際にも「左右SBのできる菅原を追加招集すべき」という声が挙がったほどだ。結果的には町野修斗(湘南ベルマーレ)が選ばれ、本人は東京五輪に続く落選を味わったわけだが、負けず嫌いの男は「ここから巻き返してやる」と誓ったに違いない。今回は同じ2000年生まれの谷晃生(ガンバ大阪)、瀬古歩夢(グラスホッパー)、中村敬斗(LASKリンツ)も名を連ねている。それも本人にとって心強い点だろう。彼らに久保建英(レアル・ソシエダ)を加えた2000・2001年生まれの5人はU-12世代からともに代表活動をしてきた仲間。森山佳郎監督の下でインドネシアやインド、ウズベキスタンなどアジアの環境の悪い国々に転戦し、タフさを養ってきた。そういった経験値がある分、メンタル的に強い人間が揃っている。ドイツ5部からブンデスリーガ1部に這い上がった上月壮一郎(シャルケ)もその一員ではあるが、日本人の若者としては少し異質な人材が出てくるのも不思議ではないのだ。年齢や国籍に関係なくバチバチできるメンタリティをぜひとも新生・森保ジャパンに還元してほしいもの。すでにA代表歴のある菅原はその筆頭にならなければいけない。さらに言うと、名古屋ユースの大先輩・吉田麻也(シャルケ)が外れた今、偉大な先陣から託されたものを受け継ぎ、ピッチで示すことも彼に託される重要タスク。菅原はそういうことを考えて行動に移せる人間である。だからこそ、こちらも大いに期待したくなる。 A代表から離れていた約2年半で、彼がどのような変貌を遂げたのかをしっかりとチェックすることが、初陣2連戦の大きなテーマ。「内田二世」と評されてきた男が見る者の度肝を抜くような仕事をやってのけることを今から楽しみに待ちたい。 2023.03.16 18:30 Thu
