共に金メダル候補に挙げられている中での決勝。互いに譲らない状況で試合が進む中、前半終了間際にブラジルが先制する。
先行を許したスペインだったが、後半早々にミケル・オヤルサバルが同点ゴール。そのまま延長戦へと突入すると、延長後半にマウコムにゴールを許し、1-2で敗戦。銀メダルに終わった。
スペインにとっては、2000年のシドニー・オリンピック以来のメダル獲得となった中、このチームにオーバーエイジとして参加したセバージョスは初戦のU-24エジプト代表戦で足首を負傷。その後はピッチに立つことはなかった。

21世紀の出場試合数ランキング発表! 首位は1145試合のC・ロナウド、トップ10に日本人選手がランクイン

スペイン代表及びサッカー連盟のエンブレムデザインが変更!「エレガンスでシンプルでありながら、パワフル」

仲良しの先輩はバルデ、ファティ、ガビ… バルセロナの16歳ヤマル、史上最年少のスペイン代表選手へ
