イングランド代表のガレス・サウスゲイト監督が、ユーロ2020グループD最終節チェコ代表戦におけるFWハリー・ケインの先発出場を明言した。イギリス『スカイ・スポーツ』が伝えている。

イングランドはチェコ代表、クロアチア代表、スコットランド代表からなるグループDに属しており、ここまで1勝1分けで現在2位に位置。23日に行われるチェコ戦を引き分け以上で終えるとグループ突破が決まり、勝利すると首位通過が決まる。

ケインはここまで2試合で先発出場しているものの、いずれも枠内シュートを放つことができずに途中交代。だが、サウスゲイト監督はエースへの信頼を揺るがすことなく、チェコ戦でも先発起用することを明かした。
「先発だ。絶対にね。彼はゴールを決めるだけでなく、ビルドアップやその他すべての要素の基盤となる選手だ」

「現在、彼について多くの疑問が投げかけられているのを知っている。だが、そんなこと彼は100回も経験しているし、私も監督としてその疑問に答えてきた。そして彼はその度に次の試合でゴールを決めてきた。私は今回もそうなると予想しているよ」
一方で、イングランドの指揮官は2試合連続で途中交代させている理由を説明。前回のワールドカップからの反省点を生かしているという。

「クロアチアとの試合ではリードした状態にあり、追加点ではなく、プレスをかけてリードを保つためのエネルギーが必要だった」

「ワールドカップではハリーを多忙にさせてしまい、今回はその負担を軽減する必要があると感じていた。ベンチには素晴らしいオプションも揃っているしね」

「我々にとって重要な選手であることは間違いない。それはゴール記録を見れば一目瞭然だ」

イプスウィッチをプレミアに導いたマッケンナ監督、古巣ユナイテッドで指揮の可能性も?

元ユナイテッドSDがFAに復帰…新設のチーフ・フットボール・オフィサーに就任

元マンチェスター・ユナイテッドのスポーツディレクター(SD)、ダン・アシュワース氏が、イングランドサッカー協会(FA)に復帰することになった。 FAは14日、アシュワース氏が新設のチーフ・フットボール・オフィサーに就任すると発表。同職ではイングランド代表の男女チームと緊密に連携していくことになるという。 昨年12月にユナイテッドのSDをわずか5カ月で退任したアシュワース氏。それ以前にはブライトン&ホーヴ・アルビオン、ニューカッスルで手腕を発揮しており、国内外のクラブからのオファーも想定されていたが、2018年まで6年間に渡って勤務していたFAに復帰することになった。 アシュワース氏は、セント・ジョージズ・パークの再開発を監督し、2028年に開催されるユーロ2028の共催に向け、競技施設とピッチの改善を目指す。 さらに、この新役職は、男子フットボールのテクニカルディレクターであるジョン・マクダーモット氏と緊密に連携するとともに、FAの最高経営責任者(CEO)であるマーク・ブリンガム氏とも連携する。 また、イングランド国内の地元出身のコーチの育成にも携わる予定だという。 2025.05.15 16:30 Thu
