FA女子スーパーリーグ(FAWSL)のトッテナムに所属するアメリカ女子代表FWアレックス・モーガン(31)が新天地デビューを果たした。2016年からナショナル・ウーマンズ・サッカーリーグ(NWSL)のオーランド・プライドでプレーするモーガンだが、NWSLの中断期間を利用して、9月にトッテナムに加入していた。
トッテナムは7日、FAWSL第6節でレディングと対戦。モーガンは70分から途中出場を果たし、デビューを飾った。モーガンにゴールは生まれず試合は1-1の引き分けに終わっている。
今年5月に第一子の女児を授かり、プレーから遠ざかっていたモーガンにとっては、出産後初のプレーとなったが、久々にピッチに立ったことを喜んでいる。
「トレーニングよりもスプリントが多く感じましたが、すぐに慣れます。ピッチに入った時には、試合はトランジションが多く、ポゼッションはあまりありませんでした。試合の終盤はかなり良くなったので、次からはもう少し落ち着いて試合に入れることを楽しみにしているわ」
トッテナムは6節を終えて2分け4敗と未勝利が続いており、12チーム中11位に沈んでいる。
実績抜群のモーガンはチームの救世主となることができるだろうか。
